Looking for a list of missing N2 Grammar Points

Hi everyone,

I intend to pass the JLPT2 in December.
For grammar, so far Bunpro has been great to help me review it.

Unfortunately many points are still missing for the N2.
Is there somewhere a list of the missing grammar points ?
I am sure the Bunpro team must have one, would they be willing to share it?

If not, I suppose I will have to go over my notes to make it by myself, but I would prefer to avoid doing it. ;D

Thank you in advance.

Hi, @Fauvent!

We hope to have N2 complete well before the December test to give you some time to review for it with Bunpro. We apologize for not having N2 done sooner! As we add more and more grammar points to the site, there are more and more alternative answers that we need to check for in reviews as well as instances of subtle nuances that need to be added to help you differentiate similar grammar structures. We are working on getting you these grammar points as quickly as we can. Thank you for your patience. Here is a preview of what is to come. Please let us know if there is something that you expected to see but is not in this list or already on Bunpro. Cheers!

It is a great news to hear!
I will focus more on the reading and listening in the meantime!

Thank you very much for your answer and your work on Bunpro.

Do you also have a list of missing N5 to N3 grammar points that you want to add?

@seanblue Yes, we have a pretty extensive list of grammar points that we would like to add. Once we have fleshed out our current content and added essential grammar points to the remaining N2 and N1 JLPT levels, we will be going through and incorporating the additional grammar we have accumulated. The list includes grammar that we would like to add as well as grammar that needs further explanation or additional example sentences. Here is our current list, in no particular order:

N or sentence + の ははじめてです

V (stem) 方 (way of ~ing)

N に当たる (corresponding to)

~ずつ (each; at a time)

せっかく

そうかと言って

でいいです・でけっこうです (will do)

Are you going to add general grammar points for Question Word + も or Question Word + か? It looks like there already is one for Question Word + でも. Like this:

Yes

It is on the list :+1:

@Pushindawood @mrnoone I just encountered はというと while reading, which appears to be an N2 grammar point. It doesn’t appear to be in Bunpro now or in your list above. Thoughts on adding it?

Hey, I have added it to the to-do list :+1:

Hello, sorry to chime!
Just wondering if there are plans to complete (some part of) N1 before this year’s December test as well?

Best,

Hey
I can’t promise anything, but I think it is possible to upload a lesson with the most common grammar points of N1 exam!

Just chiming in to say that I just saw this one used in a N3 prep book (新完全マスター読解 N3) and got unfortunately confused for quite a long time…:slightly_frowning_face:

Page 20 : 「整頓」は使いやすいように置く、配置することを意味します。

@Pushindawood @mrnoone I have no idea what level this would be, but I just encountered the grammar point Verb[た]ためし(は)ない. It seems to be similar to Verb[た]こと(は)ない, but with a more negative connotation.

@mrnoone See above, but also this grammar point: XならXで. What level would this even be?

It seems that the fairly common grammar point “must do” ないといけない and its abbreviation ないとis not on Bunpro and also not on the list of future points.

Another little missing grammar point is 通す, as an auxiliary verb meaning to persist in until the end (no matter what). Could be good to complete the completion triad きる・ぬく・とおす

Another suggestion :または (similar to それとも)
It’s mentioned in shin kanzen master grammar N3 and in the Dictionary of Japanese Grammar (intermediary)

Another interesting little grammar point, which could fit well in Bunpro, discovered in the official jlpt mockup for N2 : adj + め/目

Take an i-adj of degree/size/amount, remove the final い and add め to get a weakened version of the adjective. Ex : 長め = longish; moderately long. 短め = rather short; somewhat short. 濃いめ = strongish; somewhat strong. etc.

Edit :
Another one, from the same official N2 mockup. 仮に + とする(Supposing that)

excerpt of the mockup

人は一生のうちどのくらい寝ているのでしょうか。仮に一日8時間寝て、80歳までいきる( )。

  1. となりました
  2. とします
  3. とされていました
  4. と見られます
