I’m not sure how, in two years of studying, I never learnt どれ (only どちら) :joy:

It’s always good to see new grammar, thank you!

@MissDagger You are never done studying Japanese! :japanese_ogre: Muwahahaha :japanese_ogre: But, seriously, if you come across a grammar point in the wild or in your textbook that you do not fully understand, our goal is to provide you with the resources that you need to learn more about it and the tools you need to study it, review it and ultimately reproduce it yourself. Thanks for the kind words! Cheers!

@miragedenver, @conan, @Ambo100 and @nanda Thank you all for your kind words and support! More additions are on the way. Cheers!

Thanks guys. I think it’s really important to go back to N5 occasionally. Having lived in Japan for the best part of 2 years and having studied Japanese for about 5 years, I still occasionally come across something that I would describe as a ‘light bulb moment’ when I realise something I should have realised a long time ago.

Any news on the N1 stuff? I should be ready to get started on it fairly soon, so an indication of when it’s expected would be much appreciated. Obviously I’m not asking for an exact date or anything, but an idea would be great.

I think they mentioned late April on the WK thread. But I can’t remember.

That’s great if true and fits in just perfectly. Won’t be taking my N1 this time but possibly next time or the time after depending on how quickly I can get through it. One of my Japanese teachers says that the N2 stuff is used in everyday life, whereas N1 stuff is hardly ever used :joy::joy:
So yeah probably July 2020 but this December if I really get my head down!

But, but, but, I’m been good.

I can already tell you that my studying on BP have helped me in my iTalki lessons, being able to use the て-form and many other grammar points I’ve learned here. ^____^

Yeah I run into N2 a lot while reading. If N3 could be thought of the basis of speech, I’d say N2 is the basis of literature.

I haven’t read much yet but I’ve read 11 books in Japanese so far, but when I looked at the N1 grammar lists on Japanesetest4you and 日本語の森, I barely recognized anything but a handful of grammar points…

Bunpro is going to be a god send for its SRS…cause I’m not sure how much is going to be reinforced with just reading.

Do you happen to have a link to that WaniKani thread?

I’ll do you one better and link where they said April.

“Once N2 is fleshed out, we will be able to devote our time to N1 and future grammar with the hope of having something available to you by this April. Cheers!”

That makes sense… I try to read in Japanese but I find I zone out super easily - I can read a whole page and not know what I’ve read.

Excellent - I’m loving the paths feature and since I’m a Genki user, this update is right up my alley (even if twice now I’ve been within one lesson of polishing off N5, only for the goal line to move!). Thanks, Bunpro!

What!?
I literally added the last lesson yesterday. You did this on purpose!!

I have a suggestion for clearing up あげる・くれる・もらう though:

  • あげる = To give AWAY from speaker (外へ)
  • くれる = To give TOWARDS speaker (内へ)
  • もらう = To receive

Seeing くれる translated as “receive” in the English hints is extremely misleading/confusing, because くれる does not mean “to receive,” it means “to give” (in your direction).
This is why ~てくれてありがとう translates to, “thank you for giving me the favor of _____.”

Edit:
Thanks again for all the effort you’ve put into this site!!
Grammar’s never felt more approachable, and it’s easier than ever to remember it all. I can’t even guess how much grammar I learned in my first year of Japanese classes that fell straight out of memory, all because there was no incentive to use it frequently, and I couldn’t actually read Japanese yet… Now though, all of the early grammar feels like second nature, and the rarer grammar isn’t even hard, it’s just… rarer.

文プロ takes care of it all, though

Another option for くれる is be given. Either way, I agree with you that translating くれる as “to receive” is downright wrong.

Nice! Thanks for this. I’m about an N2 but still run into N5 problems all the time (grammar accuracy is my number 1 weakness in Japanese) so it does help to review regularly
