AI use in Vocab Sentences

Hi, I believe all of the grammar points have human generated sentences and these are reviewed by natives. For the sentences for vocab I remember reading that these are AI generated then they’re polished by human review. (EDIT: As per the reply below, I must have misread it somewhere!!)

Can you confirm how this is done/what the process for generating AI sentences is? Is the prompt to generate a Japanese sentence then translate it to English for the English translation? Mostly looking to understand the quality of the thousands and thousands of vocab sentences.

A few points:

  • All Japanese sentences are written by (the hard working) native Japanese humans on our team, regardless of being grammar or vocab example sentences. They’re then checked and translated by a native English speaker.
  • In the past, some of the higher level English translations for vocab examples were AI translations however they have long been all human checked/edited/changed. Feel free to report any translations you think sound strange though and someone will take a look at it.
  • Grammar audio is recorded by a professional voice actor.
  • The only current “AI” use we have is for vocab audio.

Wow! That’s really great. Definitely going to share my approach with my teacher since that’s an incredible dedication to quality. That’s 10’s of thousands of sentences!

In case you don’t hear it elsewhere, I appreciate you all for keeping so much of the content generated by humans. I despise AI and I feel strongly that it does more harm than good in language acquisition. If I was a native speaker, I’d totally help with recording the vocab!

There are actually still a few AI translations that require human checking.
Currently there are some in the A1 level.
They are wrapped in the curly braces ({}).
Translation-checked sentences have the green tick in the bottom right instead of the grey 文A icon

That’s good to know. I think a lot of these small details haven’t made their way over to the Android app yet, though.

You might just have to pull the data again?

How to
  1. Open the hamburger menu in the top left

  2. Tap the cog

  3. Go to ‘General’, scroll to the bottom

  4. Tap ‘Reset Data’

  5. Tap ‘Reset All’, and wait (a while)

  6. Once the popout closes, check to see if the issue has disappeared.
