Book collector rehab (actually reading what you own accountability thread)

Yea it has an option built into the app that doesnt allow the option to be disabled. Well different levels but the strictest level doesnt allow for it, so ill toss it on for like a week and I have basic messaging access to contact family and like my email. but everything else I either cant access or its limited to just an hour a day. Its really nice actually. I recommend finding a similar app or I can even recommend mine if yall want.

I tend to use the ā€œall time readā€ stats and just manually deduct any learner materials when using my profile. It lets me pin point how many of each book type I’ve read. Don’t be fooled by my higher level books and series, those are on there because I used them as test beds for to figure out what’s comfortable for me and I’ll use them as an improvement gauge further down the line when I reread/ rewatch them.

Hope you’re ok and things settle down a little for you. It’s difficult when life happens at times but we’re here for you. I hope everything works out to plan and the good things increase. Good luck :four_leaf_clover:

This is how I like to gauge my progress, by rereading something further down the line and seeing the improvement I’ve made. It’s a real motivation booster.

恊悁恧ćØ恆ļ¼ It’s an awesome feeling, well done :tada:
Reading digitally does help the transition from easier books to more difficult books since it makes it quicker to look things ip and gain better understanding. Good luck with your next choice too.

I always thought Light novels have pictures in them whereas novels are just text. Though I think the lines are blurred when it comes to deciding which is which.

Nice :sunglasses: what have you been playing? I recently picked up FF7 remake to play in Japanese (since the English version has Japanese text if you change the switch language to Japanese and there are a stack of other games that do too). I find even simpler games take me a while to get to grips with in Japanese though.

I can’t use that excuse  my bed literally sits right next to the bookcase pf all my Japanese books and I have a booklight set up at the right level and angle to read so it’s one press and ding, reading set up is all go but I tend to read only occasionally in bed

Thanks! Yeah its much easier because I can highlight on my phone and click translate and it gives me the reading when I don’t know the kanji. Yay for technology.

Yeah but then you also have to sit in a comfortable position… pro of phone reading is I can lie on my side :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve also heard people compare it to them being a YA equivalent. I think it’s generally a pretty amorphous category, tbh.

I keep meaning to do this, either with XV or VII (maybe not XVI because I think the setting would have some harder vocabulary involved). I actually started both of them just a tiny bit a while back but then stopped…I remember listening to Barrett’s speech in the elevator and being like :grimacing: cuz I got very little of it. Still, I think they’d be fun if I could just keep at it.

I mean, you can lie on your side with book reading if you’re not a coward.
Your arm might fall asleep in approximately two minutes, but still.

There was a tofugu artical that using kindle to read Japanese books was painful
If you logged in with a non-Japanese amazon account you couldn’t log out and loggin as ā€˜japanese’ you need a seperate kindle eventho the hardware is the same! And you need a Japanese credit card tied to the account

Oh yeah, quick update - I only got a little reading done yesterday (finished my é”ē”·ć®ć‚¤ćƒ volume 2, started a little bit into ヨナ volume three) and I didn’t get to any today…but that was because I was taking one of bunpro’s mock N2 tests instead!

I was very surprised by how well I did, so I immediately went searching in the forums to see if their difficulty is accurate or a bit off, and it seems that the consensus is that they’re easier than the real deal. So I’m going to take my results with a chunk of salt and keep trying to get more reading and reviewing in before July.

Very true :joy: I usually find a way to prop myself up without hurting my dhoulders or I just flip from one side to the other with each page turn

Yeah but a few of my bunko light novels are most definitely not for YA audiences (liked the book covers so didn’t know this til they arrived)

I know Game Gengo did parts of a play through for it which may help understanding level but it is one that I struggle with a lot though my level is still kinda low (natively lv 24 is about my limit atm and even that is a stretch at times)
