Bunpro JLPT Tests! New Feature, Sep 20th 2025

This is awesome. Thank you so much!

Here is how the official tests are graded. Our ‘lower end’ mark for passing is very similar to the JLPT, but the higher end mark is just a little bit higher due to the fact that we judged our tests to be fractionally easier than the actual exams except for listening which we feel is pretty much right on the money.

When we create our next batch of tests, we are going to be focusing on creating slightly above difficulty level tests, and then shuffling them in with our current tests to get them all at the perfect level. At that time, we will likely reevaluate the passing criteria.

Could you add a feature that shows the scores after the whole mock test ends, instead of after each section?

Do you mean that you would like the score for everything to be hidden until the entire test has been completed? I think we would possibly be able to do something like that. I will have a chat to the team about it :sunglasses:

Thanks a lot!! :sunny:
I guess I can make the math by myself :OO
But I was thinking that it would have been super cool if Bunpro could have displayed the results like this:

  • 文字・語彙・文法 : 37.9/60
  • 読解 : 47/60
  • 聴解 : 38/60
    Total: 122.9/180

Instead of 68% and 67.7% :innocent:

This is so exciting! i just started looking for some JLPT practice tests a few weeks ago and there definitely aren’t many great resources out there

YES! Thank you in advance  I thought I messed up the first section, but after submitting I realized it wasn’t so bad. If I hadn’t known that, I probably would’ve done worse on the other parts. So it would be so awesome to simulate the real test.

Yes, that is why I said you also can’t score below 50% on any individual section in addition to your overall score.

Wow, I really wasn’t expecting that, but it’s something that will help me a lot!!! :astonished::pray:

I won’t take the JPLT but taking small exam is still something I can do on bunpro from time to time (when I have free time and want more study time)

I’ll definitely keep paying to support Bunpro, but making it free is an awesome move that can really help grow the community too. :muscle::books:

Thanks a lot for everything you’re doing!

Oh sorry I read your message a bit too fast >.<’
But then I think for the sections it isn’t bellow 50% but bellow ~30%, if I understood correctly :OO

I wasn’t expecting such a feature, this is very convenient! I’ve gone over most of the bullet points and it seems really well thought out, I can’t wait to cram these exams!

On the actual test, we need :

  • 19/60 or above on all 3 sections, so around 1/3
    – exception : 38/120 in N4/N5 for vocab/grammar + reading section (still 1/3 but over 120 points, because in N4/N5, they just fused those 2 sections)
  • Total score around 50%, depends on the lvl.
    – N1 100/180
    – N2 90/180
    – N3 95/180
    – N4 90/180
    – N5 80/180

Please make it so that you can click any answer in the review to get the “why this answer is wrong” message. It will help to sort out why one is picked over the other, especially if just guessing.

Edit: Even if you get it right

By the way, considering the timer is a soft time limit, what does this mean for passing or failing? Can you pass the test while taking three times the allotted time?

If you go to the test and click on “Details” and the “Open” you can do exactly that.

Actually, now re-reading your comment. You mean even the ones you get right? If you got lucky picking the correct answer, I guess that makes sense.

I tried only half of a test so far and it is great! A very welcome addition :+1:
One criticism though for the listening section would be that the user shouldn’t be able to control the audio player, just as the real test.
I could take a bit of time to properly read beforehand (and scored nearly perfect) while in the exam I had to read in a hurry, and failed a few times, my score was very different
This time pressure is the main difficulty in the actual test IMO

This is great. I’ll try doing an N4 practice test next time I have a day off.

Silly request, for us badge completionists, should passing a JLPT level also flag the lower levels, so that a person who passes N2 doesn’t feel compelled to do the N5 test?

Or is this just a personal problem? :stuck_out_tongue:

this is so awesome, just played around with it a bit and i love the explanations on the questions if you get one wrong. out of curiosity, are there any plans to add more practice tests as time goes on? or do you think you’ll just stick with the 5 per level?

10 per level is our base goal long-term, but we will absolutely keep making more if both internal and external demand dictate it.

Glad you’re finding it useful!
