Bunpro JLPT Tests! New Feature, Sep 20th 2025

I don’t agree on the audio player part. The audio starts playing immediately when you go to the next question so you do have no time to prepare. Nobody forces you to tinker with the audio player  Personally I don’t plan on taking actually JLPT so I think current setting fits people like me better

We are already working on this! The audio exams actually also have audio instructions, and we have recorded these, but we are currently figuring out how to implement them without breaking the test page

To add on to this, you can use something like https://unojapano.com/score-distribution-for-jlpt-levels-12-2024/ if you want a rough estimate of what your score would show as on the results sheet. Might be cool if BP incorporated something like that as an estimated score.

I think he means that you only have a set amount of time to answer before the next question starts playing. It’s not much time either. You pretty much have to answer each question right away. At least that was my experience with the N3 test almost 3 years ago.

In the Bunpro tests, you can give yourself more or less time per question as needed. It’s still within a set amount of time, but it doesn’t have the immediacy feeling of the real test (which is a continuous audio file).

I think it would be good to have the option to select between a similar experience to the real test and the current implementation. That said, I don’t know how difficult it would be to add this feature.

Never against more options or more accurate test simulations but, just gonna throw in my own experience. I feel like more or less time given after hearing the question wouldn’t usually make any difference (at least for me), if you only hear the audio once. It’s kind’ve like, at that point, you either heard and understood what was said or you didn’t, thinking about it for more than a few seconds after the fact probably wouldn’t change that… I would also imagine that if reading the answers takes too long to keep up with the audio on the jlpt, I think there’s a good chance you’d have already failed out on the reading section.
That all being said, again, more options is never bad!!

Listening section of N1【模擬試験】3 seems to not work at all

This is actually also easy to emulate by yourself — you can just click the next question as soon as the audio stops
But anyway I agree that a toggle between “strict mode” and “loose mode” would be a great and helpful feature!

Yooo, don’t mind if I do! I’ve almost run out of my migii practice material

Yes that’s what bothered me. And even if you could potentially simulate the real conditions is is almost impossible to do in practice as your brain is too focused on solving the problem to count seconds passing. The real test is not immediate either you get a little time between questions.

Now I agree with both of you, an option would make sense. I see totally why someone wouldn’t want the time pressure when practicing but that is very far from a jlpt situation IMO so it would rather be user choice

Yeah, I struggled at the same question! I thought as she can only work 4 hours a day, I chose the other option that was 17:30-22 o´clock which is also not perfectly fitting but at least she can maybe work 4 hours with a 30 minute break?
But yeah they should change this, when they say she should work 4 hours the answer should not be the option that says 6 hours minimum.

It is a sequence of unrelated questions with a single listen so the stress builds up when reading and you have to clear up your mind right when the next one starts. The reading itself is easy, it isn’t a matter of amount of text obviously I have felt more confortable on the text study part (which I scored better).
the difficulty is thinking what will they want from these answers especially if you bump just on one sentence, and what potential trap is coming on this one…I found it sometimes disarming.
Also the fact it is at the end of the exam changes it all, I was personably mentally exhausted. My experience in the exam room was completely different than with mock tests of past exams I was doing at home.
I was actually amazed how I could fail some of the questions in hindsight, stress and fatigue very much played a role.

The moment I’ve seen this post, it’s effect was so great, that my mind’s started, on it’s one accord, looking for new ideas and methods for learning Japanese. Therefore, for the next 5 hours, my brain has been thinking, it was one hour less then the time I had to sleep before the 15 hour-long trip from Bulgaria back to Italy the next day. Since then I was continuously looking for other interesting resources, ideas, and concepts that can help in learning.

After seeing this such a great advancement of the Bunpro team, I really want to continue my own advancement as well! And I’m almost sure it will include Bunpro!

Such an exceptional work :clap::clap::clap:

I remember at times, during the listening portion of the JLPT test, I was still thinking about the previous question when the next audio question would play. Like you said, there’s time to answer them, but sometimes you doubt your answer and that’s where simulating that would probably fail unless the audio kept playing.

Anyway, hopefully implementing something like that is easy :crossed_fingers:

I believe I figured out the issue that was causing it and it should be working properly now. Thank you for pointing it out!

Thanks for pointing that out :bowing_woman: You weren’t wrong. That was an error on our side, but it’s been fixed now, so it should display correctly!
