Already did that
Tell me when I should try again, then I’ll tell you if it worked that time or not. I’m available for the next hour or so.
Oh, did that not work either? There should have been a bottom popup saying something like “reviewer mode activated”, which then means all features are unlocked. Did that not happen?
Nono, that did work. Testing the app right now. But logging in didn’t work.
I can’t find an option to enable the following forms, which imo are also important:
Passive (食べられる)
Causative (食べさせる)
Causative-Passive (食べさせられる)
Found a small issue:
I can’t manually deselect the last Basic Form in the filter menu, but I CAN deselect them all with the “Advanced Only” preset
I found a small improvement that could be made:
When you do Conjugate mode, it only downloads the audio after I click “Reveal Answer”. This causes a small delay between pressing the button and hearing the audio, which can easily be remedied by downloading the required audio once the app choses what to verb I need to conjugate.
Assuming you want feed back posted here, I’ll do a more thorough assessment most likely tomorrow but a couple of quick things I noted:
Also got the API error when attempting to sign in, was able to use the mentioned password to test premium features.
A few QoL things that I think might be worth considering would be an option to add a delay to the next audio playing, and a session count on the main page. The audio delay is mainly because my bluetooth headset takes a second to kick on when there isn’t constant audio, so I end up hearing the end of the word and having to repeat the audio (which feels like cheating).
The session count is mainly to know how many were done that session. I think this could be really helpful for someone that wants to do like 10 or 20 a day and gauge their improvement over a longer period of time.
Functionally everything seems to work as intended from what I could tell on my lunch break, really well polished for a beta. Thanks for taking the time to make something like this.
I was now able to log in!
SkyPresident granted me premium.
I had to log out and back in before the app actually gave me access to premium features though.
(also thanks @SkyPresident! )
Hi don’t have premium access at the moment. I did use the cheat code to get access so I am giving it a go right now. I like it so far.
One little problem is that when I press the ‘reveal answer’ button, the buttons underneath ‘Did you identify it correctly?’ are hidden by my Samsung’s navigation bar.
Let me sign in, didn’t unlock premium features. Reviewer mode still works though.
Granted! I have to unlock premium for users manually, but everyone who has signed in so far should have it now.
Current progress!
I figured I’d put together an update as to where the beta test is currently at, what’s been suggested, and what’s coming soon based on this feedback.
First off, the sign-up process appears to be in a working state (and it’s still open!). If anyone is having continued trouble with accessing the Google Group or the Play Store page, let me know.
More interestingly though, here’s the feedback the app has gotten so far, paired with what’s going to be done about each item:
- Google sign-in not working: This has been fixed (I think). Users should no longer receive an error when attempting to register within the app with a Google account.
- Missing passive, causative, and causative-passive forms: This is a big gap in the content I’ve been putting off addressing for too long. It’s currently my #1 priority to get these forms added and available for practice.
- Session tracker: @glideus pointed out that some users may want to practice a certain number of conjugations per day, and that a session tracker which tracks reviews completed alongside time spent would be a useful addition. I agree!
- Audio loading delay in Conjugate Mode: @Snappie smartly suggested that the audio for each practice item in Conjugate Mode (see dictionary form, conjugate into given form yourself, then hear correct audio) could be pre-loaded when that practice item first shows. This is a minor but effective QOL change.
- Configurable audio playback delay: @glideus also suggested adding an option to enable a brief delay before audio playback, giving Bluetooth audio devices time to activate before the word is spoken. This is a great idea for a necessary feature that many users could probably not live without.
- Visual overflow issues: @Anne-Marie identified an issue on phones with smaller screens (presumably) in which the practice response buttons are rendered below the main view. This may be inevitable with small enough devices, but an effort will be made to conditionally shrink certain UI components in order to enable scrolling-free practice on more devices.
Thanks again to all testers for your patience and willingness to try out an unfinished product. We’re going to make this the best conjugation listening practice method on the web!
Edit: All of these changes have been implemented! You can get them by returning to the app’s store page and updating it.
Hi there,
Just downloaded the app and would test it tomorrow. Any chance to unlock my profile until then? And thank you for developing such an app. I’ve been struggling with audio and was just searching for something in order to practice conjugation. This seems like a perfect opportunity for both!
With a good group of testers now gathered, I’m looking to move this discussion to a place more suitable for this kind of thing. What might work for everyone? Currently considering Discord, WhatsApp, or even a private discussion on this site. Let me know what you all think!
