Difficulties with differentiating some verbs

Im currently having issues with verbs that go ru and then in its polite form use ri and those that in ther normal form go ru but not ri in the formal form

These resources might help explain things. Most textbooks explain this really badly, so here’s the alternate, reliable method.

Crash course understanding: with very few exceptions, if the sound before the る in a verb’s standard form is え (へ、で、etc) or い (ち、し、き、etc), these are るverbs (a better name is ichidan verbs).

If the sound is ANYTHING else before the る, they aren’t る verbs even though they end in る! They are う verbs (better called godan verbs).

A few exceptions exist, but not many. They are summarised well in the Bunpro thread linked below.
