I’ve started watching dramas with Japanese subtitles. It helps a lot to understand because sometimes I can’t quite make what they are saying. For games, I’ll do Japanese voice but I don’t think I can keep up with the text in games yet.

Thanks for the advice on “going with it” to a certain extent, until you can naturally start to fill in the gaps through exposure and inference. Yeah, I just took the plunge recently into reading (starting with Graded Readers), and honestly I feel it’s been the most useful things I’ve done in regards to my Japanese studying. That’s why I like the idea of gaming as a passive activity to start getting exposure to context, usage, etc.
