oh, I have android which is 9 key. (あ,か,さ,た、な、は、ま、や、ら、わ) so I’m putting in hiragana either way. Most of my japanese friends use romaji keyboard with the suggestions bar for which kanji.
I recomend looking at these resources and using anki/memrise/koohii/kanshudo/tiny cards/ any SRS to review

personally my kanji is better than my hiragana.
