is the kanji supposed to not show up? its kinda hard to read a passage when everything is in kana

It seems pretty cool and I like the idea a lot. I do have some input on the design, I would honestly get rid of the underlines for the kanji. I understand the want to guide the reader to clicking on the Kanji when they don’t understand it but I think that’s more of a feature that could be explained once at the start. I think it would help make reading feel a bit less crowded and also boost immersion into the text.
Bunpro for example (Hovering over a word):
You can hover over any word in bunpro and get the reading but I don’t even remeber if they’ve explained it or not. It’s just one of those things you learn and never forget.
I don’t really think the readings or questions themselves are bad I just think if you’re going to be doing questions or review style things for practice it’s best to keep it as simple as possible.
