How much time do you plan on dedicating to this super-fast tempo? I guess it can be done but not without studying 6 hours per day or more.
I have lots of free time im at am 8 hours a day 5 days a week and 16 hours 2 days a week soo also summer break in may
You mean 3 years right ? 30 years is a lot !
At the pace of learning 1 word a day and 1 grammar point a week, it will be 30 years.
Very ambitious goal, which is commendable and I wish you get this done, what a story to tell it would be!
From my experience though, you need something to keep you on track towards the goal. I have burnt out plenty of times already by doing heavy workloads like 8h/daily and ultimately found that a balanced approach is much better. Perhaps it’s just my experience, and you can handle it without burning out!
I don’t think you need to study 6 hours per day or more. I think you can do it in less but you need to know exactly what you’re doing i.e. have your learning pretty optimized.
I’d say 3 hours a day is enough.
10’000 words for JLPT N1.
1 word per day. 365 words per year. 30 years.
I’d kms.
Better than not doing it at all tho
I would say 4.5-5 with no missed day + a few hours of listening every day, otherwise これは無理だよね
frankly this is stupid, impractical and unrealistic unless youre unemployed, and not in education or training. This will take over your entire life.
I recommend taking your time instead as that will make the process more enjoyable.
Don’t feel like learning Japanese is a race, its probably the hardest language to learn for native English speakers.
If you enjoy becoming a shut in for a whole year then go for it.
I have school but that 8 hour of my day and I study Japanese in school I always have time in art piano math and lunch to study Japanese and I have time on the bus home.
it’s a very productive choice✨ just be sure it doesn’t take over all your time. Try not to neglect your school or friend/family relationships.
This is the best mindset to have honestly. I wish you all the best, but even if you don’t make it at least it was fun and you learned along the way (◍•ᴗ•◍) and if you do make it, well that’d be pretty fun too
You’re still in school. Don’t neglect subjects, especially Maths. You’re only in school once, you have a whole lifetime to self study Japanese. Having good grades at school is more important at this stage in your life.
Even at lunch time, I would recommend that you dont put this over socialising with friends. Maybe if you get some friends who want to study Japanese too you could make a study group, but if not I wouldnt study every lunch break, maybe just twice a week, and spend the rest with friends.
Seriously, my earnest advice is to not let it take over your life. 1 hour of study a day is enough.
I’m going to be honest with you.
Even if you do get through every single BunPro grammar point in 5 months, it’s incredibly unlikely you’ll be anywhere near fluent by the time you’re done.
Learning a language is a lifestyle change. It’s something you have to use every day consistently to get better at, and it’s a very hard thing to rush. Most people who end up rushing through the JLPT levels either burn out, pass the test but have very little applicable knowledge, or “learn” everything, fail the test, and have to restart their learning because their foundational knowledge was not stable enough.
I’ll never tell someone they can’t do something, but just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.
From some of your other replies it seems like you’re still in school. I don’t know if this is Highschool, College, or whatever, but that’s going to take time away from your studying. On top of that, I don’t know how many friends/extracurriculars you have, but hyper-focusing on studying will eat away at friendships and your physical health.
You will have the herculean task of managing your Physical and Mental health, any relationships you may have, whether that be friends, family, significant others, etc, your education, as well as possibly up to 3-5 hours of studying (bare minimum) every single day for the conceivable future.
All I can say is good luck. I tend to pick up things pretty quickly, and I’ve been studying for over 2 years at this point. In BunPro I’m only at N3, but I spend a lot of time watching content creators/reading elsewhere whenever I lose the drive to continue SRS. I’m extremely happy where I am after all this time, and I am fully convinced if I had tried to “speedrun” learning up to this point, I would have given up like I have with countless other hobbies I’ve tried in the past.
Some folks are just the hyperfocus-type, why won’t we just let them be how they are? Even if you are still in school, we are not their parents, so maybe life advise should not be given by random people in language learning forums?
@loink Have fun and enjoy your hyperfocus while it lasts! Do you already have experience how long your “phases” last?
Why are so many people obsessed with setting such unrealistic goals lol. Isn’t it more motivating to set an attainable goal instead of a crazy one? Very few people can actually go from zero to N1 in a year. And even then, it still takes YEARS to master the language. Language learning is a marathon, not a sprint.
“Some folks just have addictive personality types, why won’t we just let them be how they are?”
If you see someone actively causing harm to themselves, would you step in to help?
Being positive is not a good thing inherently. Being positive about positive things is good, but blanketly accepting all behaviors as “some people are just that way” is enabling and can ruin lives.
I’m no one’s parent, I won’t force anyone to do anything, but I will give my opinion on threads asking for opinions. No one has to listen to me, but I say what I do not to try and hurt people but to widen their perspectives.
If you’re posting to a language learning forum about a plan to learn a language that interferes with your ability to live a normal life, it is the responsibility of every learner that has come before them to warn them of the possibilities and assist them to the best of their abilities.
I refuse to blindly be positive about everything, even if I think it’s a bad idea.
The only time you should speak with authority is when you are speaking from a position of success. I don’t want my marathon coach to be a guy who can just barely finish a 5k. If you have your opinions you can state them, but so can I. Please remember going forward that your approach will not be the correct approach for everyone or everything, and a variety of opinions is the key to finding what actually works.
Yes, please
Nah, you could stay at home and do what you like. If you can learn Japanese in 1 year, you probably can accomplish most stuff that people can’t. It’s it’s really just subjective stuff that is though as a convention, never really liked it. It’s better to find people somewhere else by interest, rather then trying to find something in people in schools who is just happened to be in the same jail as you (in my a bit raged opinion)
I had a geometry dash phase where I played all day every day even if I didn’t want to play or was bored got 2000 hours in 7 months also played minecraft for 9 years with 27k hours and it was the only game I played so they should last long enough to learn Japanese, but those are video games not a language I can’t wait to see how it translates.
