Let's play Standard Shiritori! しりとりをしましょう!

Not sure what you mean. I think it only matters what kana ends and starts with. I’ve done the same too with this one.

I could be wrong, but I’m fairly sure it only matters what kana it ends it as opposed to what kanji. Therefore although 誕 may be read as たん, it only needs to use た to count

OK, I see. Thanks for clarifying.

I’m assuming the next word starts with an あ sound? Sorry, just trying to understand the game.

EDIT: In the link with the rules posted above, it says:

“Long vowels when a foreign word (for example, power パワー) can either be a “wa” or an “a” sound, depending on your rules. For our game, it would be a “wa.””

Are we doing the same here?

If anyone wants to reply to this comment with their thoughts, I’m personally for it.

Welp, I’m a loser. Time for a new game.

舞妓 (まかない) an in house cook for Maiko? Learned it from this show but having trouble finding the exact meaning on Jisho.
Also a very wholesome show! If you’ve seen / read Tokyo Dinner, it’s a similar feeling.

EDIT: Found this from the 4th reference on the wiki page at the bottom.

Makanai is a Japanese culinary term which means a meal provided to staff rather than the customers

EDIT 2: and this is the article the ref links to!

The name “makanai” comes from the Japanese word meaning “a meal provided to staff rather than the customers”. In traditional Japanese restaurants, it is common for the staff to share a meal made by the chef together - this meal typically is not something found on the shop’s menu.
