I started learning Polish recently (I’m Polish American and my late great grandmother’s native language is Polish but it didn’t pass it down sadly but I want to learn it and master it as I’m planning to go to Poland next year.).
Here’s a historical event in the Polish Japanese relations.
Between 1920-1922 with the call of a Polish Man for help from Vladivostok, the Japanese Red Cross helped saved 760+ Polish Orphans who lost their family in post-Russian Revolution torn Siberia. These children were transported from Vladivostok to Tsuruga Port (The Port of Humanity) in Tsuruga, Fukui Prefecture. They were embraced and treated with toy, gifts, postcards, etc. by the citizens of the Tsuruga. The children will then be later transported to cities like Tokyo and Osaka where then were repatriated in Poland. This is event is also marked by the apple tree planted at Fukudenkai Orphanage in Shibuya, Tokyo. The Tsuruga Port also played the role of saving thousands of Jews in Lithuania fleeing Nazi persecution.
