Why is the particle こと written in kanji (事)? BP itself says that “こと as a particle will almost never be written in the kanji form.”
Because it isn’t a particle, it’s a noun. The section you’re referring to is in the 'caution" section where they refer to こと being used to list rules. The way it’s being used in your sentence provided it is being used as a nominalizer.
Within the caution section they are referring to a specific use of こと that isn’t the same use as the one in that sentence you provided.

Thanks. It looks similar to the particle の, so I assumed it was a particle. Turns out that was not the case.
