A question about the 練習問題 「僕の母はいつも____の厚い本を読んでいます。」

Is this construction of 分の厚い real? I’ve tried googling it and I’m not getting any hits.

Instead all I see is 分厚い, which also exists as a word on bunpro.

it comes up in this collocation dictionary but it does seem less common

I also found it in this recent blog post: 1日のあいだに違う種類の仕事をいくつか同時に進める日々です ✹ その1 ✹ 作家|青山繁晴の道すがらエッセイ/On the Road
and this page, among others: 石垣純二氏—女性に對する愛情と理解 (看護学雑誌 7巻5号) | 医書.jp

When you’re searching a term on google, make sure to put the term in double quotation marks so that it searches for the term exactly as it is.

ETA: searching for it with double quotation marks yielded 380k results so I would say it is fairly common but for some reason google prefers to correct your search to 分厚い if you search without the quotation marks

You know… I actually wasn’t using google. I was using brave search, which found “分の厚い” to short and so it gave a “search operators were not applied” message. It didn’t occur to me to try a different search engine.

Thank you.

Would add that sometimes the compound words will get a technically incorrect の thrown in both in writing and speech. Sometimes intentionally.

Intentional Example: もちろん (dictionary) becoming もちのろん (slang)

I find google is the best for searching for things like word usage because it’s the most optimised, but I also usually use Duck Duck Go, so I get you!
