As always, we split our Year in Review post into three categories – Past, Present, and Future. Let’s start by taking a look at an overview of additions and adjustments we made to the site in 2025!

Content Updates:

  • Master the differences between Grammar Points: All items in the ‘Related’ section on a Grammar Point page now have in-depth explanations. (N5-N1).
  • New grammar additions: More items for you to Learn, Master, and use in the real-world.
  • Vocab Improvements: Better Vocab example translations and more Vocab able to be Reviewed in Fill-In (Cloze) format.
  • Be ready for the real thing: 25 full JLPT Practice Tests to help you prepare, each with audio and detailed feedback on wrong answers.
  • Learn and Immerse together: N3 & N2 Grammar write-ups now available entirely in Japanese.
  • Or, learn in another language: N5 (and parts of N4) now available in Indonesian, Spanish and French (human localization – not AI slop!)
  • Less Synonym Hell: Added tens of thousands of alternate answers and hints based on attempted answer data to help point users in the right direction or highlight common errors.

Platform Updates:

  • Don’t study alone: Expansive Referral Program that rewards you for inviting friends to join your study journey.
  • Spice up your Bunpro experience: The B-Point Shop lets you to buy cosmetics, such as Quiz Themes, custom Profile Themes and much, much more.
  • Released Custom Decks: Build your own custom Decks to learn from or share with friends. Check out the published Community Decks to see what others have made!
  • The gift of learning: We established a Community Subscription Pool where users can donate or request subscription time.
  • Optimize your Learning: Improved settings and customization options (some still in progress)
  • Official mobile release: Moved the mobile app out of open beta and continued to expand the app to support features and content available via the web.

At the end of 2024 we laid out for you what we had on our horizons for 2025 - let’s see how we did!

Looking back on our goals for 2025 from one year ago:

  • Finish and Release 50-75 new Grammar Points from our list.
    • While we did release a batch and have prepped more, we have yet to release them…
  • A Profile overhaul to make it a more useful and fun part of the site.
    • Done! :tada:
  • N1 Reading Passages
    • Released, plus we improved and expanded the existing passages for N5-N2 :tada:
  • New professional audio for Grammar and real audio to replace the TTS that Vocab has.
    • Done! :tada:
  • A full release of the mobile app followed by some design overhauls and changes to take advantage of app-only functionality.
    • Done! :tada:
  • The future might finally be here and 2025 may actually be the year of the Bunpro Merch store.
  • Explore adding some sort of kanji aspect to the site, if only the information and ability to see Vocab that share kanji.
    • Ideated and lightly designed, hopefully in 2026!
  • Japanese/English hints for Vocab from N3 on.
    • Done! :tada:
  • Explore translating Bunpro into other languages (currently we offer a Spanish translation of N5 that hasn’t been officially released yet).
    • Done!:tada:

——

At present, we have a huge mix of projects in the pipeline and a solid roadmap laid out for 2026. After some much deserved R&R, the team will be back refreshed and ready to charge headfirst into 2026.

Our Goals for 2026

  • Grammar Expansion: More Grammar Points (for sure this year) and more examples for each. Filling in missing audio.
  • Holistic Learning: A new type of content to lets us give users a more holistic view of grammar and how the pieces fit together.
  • Vocab integration and content clickability: Currently only a small portion of example sentences and Reading Passages are linked to the Grammar/Vocab that is used in them. We want to make all content work that way.
  • Alternate Answers & Hints: Continuing on the expansion of hints and improvements we did this year, improving existing ones and adding even more.
  • Conjugation Game: We have a conjugation practice game we are currently alpha testing :eyes:
  • More Vocab Cloze support: Making the ~10k vocab words we have sentences for beyond N1 have proper cloze data formatting.
  • Kanji Info: This year will hopefully be the year we add Kanji info.

Another year in the books for Bunpro, our best one to date!

We say it every year but everything we do is shaped by your feedback, both positive and negative. Bunpro would not be anywhere close to the site it is today without all of you, so thank you for everything you do!

All of us here at the team hope that no matter how you are spending the holidays, you are having an enjoyable time.

I’ve been asking for a way to support Bunpro even though I got my lifetime subscription ages ago. This is so much cooler, with the warm fuzzy feeling of helping someone else too.

Thanks for all your hard work! Starting my learning journey with you guys this year has been amazing.
I just purchased a lifetime sub at the end of 2025, excited to keep up this journey with you all in 2026 and beyond.

Thank you for another year using this product. This update has been really useful, especially when there are several grammar options that have slight differences in nuance but not meaning.

im really hoping to see an ‘undo’ or go back button added. often when i go through cards too quickly in anki, i like to go back and read the card again; but there isnt a way for that in bunpro. Also good if i fat-finger 2 instead of 1 and grade a card (in flash card mode).

Awesome changes this year though; enough to make me go from occasional monthly subs to getting the lifetime.

Super hyped for those, I can already tell I’ll be using them a lot !
Lots of luck and hard work for 2026 everyone :bunprogold:

I use WaniKani, Bunpro, and HelloTalk, as my three “subscription” resources. (I also use Anki, some textbooks, some VNs, several custom python resources, etc). Among the three paid resources, Bunpro easily has the most responsive and community-centric team. I wish I knew more people who were interested in learning Japanese so I could point them to this awesome resource. I’m a self-study person, but this easily tops Genki and the standard university approaches - it would be so neat and beneficial for learners (especially long-term commitment) if Bunpro was implemented in more university classes here in the USA. Maybe some language programs would be willing to partner with Bunpro for a discount or something. That would also increase the exposure of the software to the Japanese community at large. Anyway, just thinking aloud, super grateful for this resource.

Wait so does this mean the audio for all of the vocab sentences are now done by an actual person? Amazing! Will the N2 and N1 reading practices get audio too?

Also will FSRS make it this year?

Unfortunately we got around to doing the Grammar but Vocab is planned for this year, there are just a lot of sentences (like 100k+ :sob: ). It will take us a while so we will have TTS until we can replace them.
