Additional Formalities?

I was browsing through an older book* of mine for review, and I noticed that in the chart they had for “may/permission” had additional formalities I hadn’t seen before. I was curious if such formalities are accepted as answers on Bunpro, or if they should be added as separate grammar points? (I don’t know what’s on the JLPT, and I don’t know if Bunpro cares to include things outside of it.)

May/Permission Chart: (as listed/categorized in the book)
Formal:
～てもよろしいです、てもかまいません、てもいいです
Informal:
～てもかまわない、てもいい
Colloquial:
～ていい

*For those curious, the book is “Japanese in Mangaland 2” but it’s not one I’d recommend for beginners. It’s more of a review book.

てもいい is in Bunpro (there’s actually two versions in N5). I’m pretty sure よろしい is just a more formal version of いい. So てもよろしい should mean exactly the same thing, outside of formality level.

構かまう means “to mind”. So while ～てもいい and ～てもよろしい mean “if ~ it’s okay”, てもかまいません•てもかまわない means “if ~ I don’t mind”.

So based on that, any of the example sentences that are formal should probably accept てもよろしい. The casual example sentences should not. I’m not sure about the interchangeability with てもかまいません•てもかまわない, even if they have similar meaning (other than that they should probably also match formality levels).

Oh I know てもいい is on there, just figured I’d include the whole chart for context :slight_smile: I appreciate the further explanations though. It was interesting to come across, since I’ve only ever seen てもいい.

I guess I can test it out when they come up for review, haha.
