Advice for N1 Preparation

Hi,
I joined Bunpro when it was starting out but I have to admit I haven’t used it much. But I have used it. I have 332 items in my review queue. I think they are mostly N5 but I’m not really interested in studying them at the moment. I want to study only N1 because I am planning to take the N1 test in July of next year. What’s the best way to remove all these from my queue? Should I just reset everything and start again?

Welcome back!

If you go to Settings → Reset you can choose what you’d like to reset

My advice here would differ based on whether you are basically already ready to take the N1 and want to cover your bases, or if you are hoping to be ready for the test in July and you’re currently below a passing level.

If you’re already comfortably N1 and want to fill in the gaps of your knowledge then I’d suggest reading over the (N2 and) N1 list first just to see to what extent you are missing things or not, and mark things as mastered which you think you already know. Once you’ve done that then I’d just go through (N2 and) N1 in order, perhaps occasionally ‘mining’ things by adding them directly to your queue when you happen to come across them in the wild.

If you’re completely new to most (N2 and) N1 material then I’d just go through it all in order, maybe ‘mining’ things on occasion.

The reason I mention N2 above is that a lot of grammar on the N1 is stuff that often comes up in N2 lists or variations of “simple” grammar but with a finer understanding of usage being tested.

I’m sure others will have opinions and advice as well but hopefully that’s enough to start chewing on. Bunpro is quite different in some respects to 7 years ago so if you arent sure of how something works then feel free to ask. Good luck!

Thanks. I think I could pass Level 1 if I took it today but grammar is definitely my weak point. I think I will reset everything and study L1 and if time L2 grammar. Thanks.

We’ve also got practice tests with Bunpro now! So you don’t have to guess

Thanks. I took one of them. I think I read somewhere that they are on the easy side. So I need to do some fine-tuning.
