Alternate answers to vocab cards

A lot of vocab cards, where the word being tested is a verb, have an alternate answer that is the dictionary form of the verb.

For example in the screenshot below, the valid answers are:

  • はし(っていく)
  • はしる(っていく)

I’m only studying N5 so maybe I haven’t learned about this yet, but the second option isn’t a form I recognise.

Is the second answer really correct form?

My assumption is that this option is not there to serve as an example of correct form, but is there so that I can still answer the question if I know the dictionary form of the verb, but may not yet know what the correct stem is.

But I’d appreciate having that confirmed or denied, thank you

Your assumption is correct. Once you know the conjugations well enough, this won’t be as confusing. It’s nice to have this feature for vocabulary reviews where there about 5 different possible words that might be correct and the dictionary form is still accepted along with the properly conjugated form used in the sentence.
