Announcement: N3 Grammar JP Translations are Now Available! 11/11

Hi, All :smiley_cat::ear_of_rice:

お待たせしました for everyone who wants to learn N3 Japanese grammar in Japanese! We’re happy to announce that N3 Japanese grammar explanations are now available! :accept:

I’m going to post this in Japanese first, then in English. Let’s try reading it in Japanese! :eyeglasses:
(If you’d prefer to read in English, please scroll down!)

:genie: 何のために作ったの? :woman_genie:

日本語で文法を勉強したい人のために作りました。日本語で考えながら文法を学びたい人、もう少しむずかしいことをしたい人、英語で学ぶのがむずかしいと感じている人に特におすすめです。

:game_die: 日本語のレベルはどれくらい? :jigsaw:

:round_pushpin: メモ :writing_hand:

もとの英語の説明は、英語の単語を使って日本語を説明していることがあります。例えば、‘In English, this is similar to XXX…’ や ‘This translates as ‘YYY’, ‘ZZZ’, and similar expressions in English.’ のような表現です。

日本語の説明は、このような英語をそのまま訳していません。日本語としてわかりやすくするために、内容や文の順番を少し変えています。そのため、英語と日本語はぴったり同じというわけではありません。どうぞ、ご理解ください :bowing_woman:

いつもフィードバックやコミュニティで協力してくれて、本当にありがとうございます!この新しい機能が、みなさんの学習のお役に立ちますように。もし何か気づいたことがあれば、ぜひ教えてください!ではでは、これからも一緒にがんばりましょう~! :smile_cat::books::coffee:

:point_down: Here is the English version :point_down:

:genie: What’s the purpose? :woman_genie:

This feature helps you immerse yourself in Japanese by learning grammar directly in it. It’s recommended, for example, for learners who want to think about grammar in Japanese, who are looking for an extra challenge, or for non-native English speakers who find it difficult to study it through English.

:game_die: What level of Japanese is used? :jigsaw:

The grammar explanations only use the grammar you’ve already learned at that level. We try to use simple expressions, vocabulary, and kanji (mostly up to N3 level) as much as possible. There might be some advanced grammar terms, but overall the explanations should be easy to read and understand.

Also, all kanji have furigana :heart:

:arrow_right: How to switch between English and Japanese? :arrow_left:

It’s easy! Just tap the button on the top-right corner of the grammar explanation screen. You can always switch between the two languages. Once you switch the language, your setting will apply across all grammar pages!

:round_pushpin: Note :writing_hand:

The original English versions sometimes explain Japanese using English words, for example, ‘In English, this is similar to XXX…’ or ‘This translates as ‘YYY’, ‘ZZZ’, and similar expressions in English.’. So, we adjusted the content and wording instead of translating it directly. We also changed the word order in some places to make it easier to understand. Please note that the English and Japanese versions may not always match exactly :bowing_woman:

Thank you as always for supporting us through your feedback, community participation, and everything you do! We hope this new feature becomes a helpful tool to support and boost your Japanese learning. If you notice anything, we’d appreciate your feedback! ではでは、引き続き一緒に頑張りましょう~! :smile_cat::books::coffee:

Goodness me, this is actually great. When I first read the title, I had no confidence I’d be able to follow the explanations. But I just checked one out, and the writing is so helpful and understandable that–to my disbelief–I can actually follow along. Same goes for this thread actually.

I’ll probably use the English and Japanese lessons side by side. But I’m very impressed. I like it.

I can tell I’m getting better at Japanese, because I was able to understand about 80% of this post before scrolling down to the English version to verify. (Read kinda slowly, but still proud of that comprehension rate.)

As someone with N1 who still comes back to Bunpro to refresh grammar skills every once in a while, this is the type of update I love to see and one of the many reasons I continue to recommend Bunpro to every new learner I meet. Keep it up!

I’ve been looking forward to this news!

Nice touch on having us read the announcement in Japanese first - I can understand it, which is a confidence boost for what’s to come. I take my N4 in December so I’m looking forward to getting started on N3 soon.

Glad to hear that you’ve taken care to match the tuition content to the level being studied as far as possible.

Can we expect the same for Nuance hints when doing reviews of N3 grammar and vocab? I’m still finding the hints to be tricky to understand at N4 level.

Hi, @discopatrick thank you for your comment. I’m happy to hear that the post boosted your confidence. Good luck with your JLPT, you’ll crush it :muscle:

As for the nuance hints, they were originally written for N0 or past N1 users, and since we need to use specific vocabulary to make the hints clear, the Japanese level isn’t adjusted in the same way as the grammar explanations. That said, while we can’t promise anything, there’s always a possibility of updating them if many people want it!

Would it be possible to add the nuance hints to the word/grammar info page? That would make it easier for me to make compare/contrast flashcards when I look up points during reviews. On iOS I have to screen shot the hint
