Hi everyone.
I’m using Bunpro for both grammar and vocabulary, with cloze cards as the default. I’d really like to have the readings on the back of the cards, but not on the front.
This isn’t a problem with grammar cards because they have audio that plays automatically. However, the sentence audio doesn’t seem to play for vocabulary cards. Is there a reason for this? I understand that some sentences may not have audio, but when audio is available, it would be really useful to have it available on the vocabulary card as well. Because of this, I’d like to have furigana as a fallback. Unfortunately, with furigana turned off in the general settings, off means off for both the front and the back of the card.
I can turn furigana on, and it will show the readings for words that aren’t clozed. But this isn’t ideal either, since I’d really prefer to have no furigana at all on the front. However, if it helps me learn the target word on each card, I’m willing to make that compromise.
The problem is that not every vocabulary word even has example sentences, so those cards default to simple word cards. That’s totally fine as every word doesn’t necessarily need an example sentence, and simple nouns, etc. can be memorized on their own. But if I have furigana enabled, it also shows the reading on the front of these simple word cards, which feels a little redundant to me. Or rather, it makes reviewing them feel like a redundant activity.
Is there any way around this?
Overall, I feel like the furigana options could be much more customizable. Even just having separate on/off settings for the front and back of the card would be a good start.
I’d appreciate any advice or thoughts!
Edit to add, just realizing that with furigana off word cards in fact do show furigana on the back but not the front. Cloze sentences should really be able to behave in the same way. I could review so much faster if I didn’t have to hover over words to confirm the reading. It should be read card > flip card > grade pass or fail.
