日本語 Au Naturel

Given the scenario, which of the following sentences would be more natural:

Scenario:

You walk into Shiseido to look for face cream but have no idea where the men’s section is. So you ask an attendant.

Option A

男性の商品はどこですか?

Option B

男性向けの商品はどこですか?

I feel like A is passable and it certainly would be the first thing that pops into my head, but B strikes me as the more “well spoken” option.

You’re missing a の particle after 向け (男性向けの商品) but, to answer your question, I wouldn’t say that Option A is just passable. They’re both fine. You can of course make it more fancy, but to me the most important aspect of language is to be able to effectively and properly communicate an idea. As long as you can do that, it’s all good :+1:.

Although yours are correct, メンズ用品はどこですか。would sound a bit more natural, and it’s less words to say!

Don’t worry too much about it. Japanese people do too, lol.

That said, you have to know when you can, so first learn the rules before you break them, as the saying goes.
