No Japanese reading yesterday, but about 1/3 of Thousand Autumns vol. 3!
And I got my JLPT N2 pass! 
Got through volume 2 of 黄泉のツガイ yesterday!
I finished the first two chapters of 告白 and even tho its a bit hard for me the book is just so insane I can’t help but keep reading omg
Definitely recommend to anyone around the n2/n1 level! The first few pages are ridonk (explaining a government policy about giving students free milk) and the first chapter is like an imaginary interview that reads very stream of consciousness, but once you get used to it it’s soooo good
also low key huge shout out to the Japanese language for reminding me that books are the most GOATed form of media
I wish I could get back into reading English language books in the same way (I am an audiobook girlie tho- love u Libby!!) because every time I read something good with my eyes I’m like HOLY HELL I AM TRANSFORMED but then life gets in the way again
I did smash thru the first 4 Wizard of Earthsea books in English tho this year because they were just THAT good

I am still working on getting rid of reviews on different apps but manage to reread and log on a deck the last 3 pages of the first monogatary story yesterday.
Also read 2 n5 stories on hellostory yesterday and today.
On Monday I read 2 pages on Satori and 2 more today(will try to push it to 4).

I didn’t want to derail that thread but I just need to say: I love your recommendations in there and am taking note of them myself. And will try to hold off on buying anything new until I’ve at least made a dent in my current stack xD
Same, all those titles you recommanded are fantastic ! WHA only gets better as it progresses, volume 16 made me sob my heart off. The only one I haven’t read is Mushishi, which I’ve been meaning to pick up… But it’s not really this topic’s objective, so I’m gonna refrain from doing that 
(also Artemis Fowl in Japanese is dully noted, it was one of my favourites novels back in middle school and I’ve been wanting to re-read in since forever. At first I was planning to get it in English, but… 
My friend told me that the author’s other series is pretty good too)
On the topic of reading, I’m slowly but surely going through my ヒカルの碁 stack. Reading feels less exhausting than before and I’ve been needing to look up words less often too. Now if only I could improve my reading speed… I can’t manage to read two books at the same time, so I’ll probably wait until I’m done with the series to try and tackle another novel
Books out here being the goat and remaining the goat (and I still love hard copies so much, oughhhhh).
My re-realization wasn’t quite the same “man books are goated” but rather it’s been the times where I come home from work and go “dear god I think if I spend another evening staring at social media/youtube/mindless nonsense my brain is going to melt” and then remind myself that I can reach for one of my books, and it’s been so refreshing.
I’d love to hit a day in the future where I can read through my Japanese books as casually and effortlessly as my English, but…well, it’s going to be a looooot of practice before that happens. Until then, though, 頑張るぞ！

I’ve honestly taken to freezing my wk/bp reviews over the weekends so that they don’t pile up and overwhelm me on Monday, and while that might be slower in the long run it’s felt better from a sustainability standpoint, so here’s hoping that I can keep a good pace

I see you’re a fellow of good taste - some of those are just niche enough that I don’t often find other fans, so it’s always a joy when I do.
I am definitely looking forward to reading more アトリエ - jokes aside, it’s been on my radar for ages now (I think I actually mentioned it way back when on this thread, even). I was really only holding off because I figured that without furigana it’d be way harder to tackle, but the first volume gave me a lot more confidence about that!
Although I am also a weepy little baby, so I might be afraid of volume 16, now.
And Mushishi is a lot of fun, just saying. Really unique atmosphere. Got an anime adaptation, too, iirc?
By the author’s other series, do you mean the sequel series he wrote with the twins? I never really got around to that - it was publishing when I was older and had high school/college/work taking up my time - but it’s good to hear it was well received.
Congrats on your reading progress! It’s always really satisfying when you kind of hit a stride with reading, and I’m sure your speed will pick up with time too.
No reading for me over the weekend, and my overall progress is almost definitely going to drop off this week with classes starting back up. The river of prep shall take me once more.

After some digging, it appears that I was thinking of Jonathan Stroud’s Lockwood & co 
He’s another author that my friend and I really liked in middle school (the way the Bartimeus trilogy ends in forever burnt into my brain) so he probably came up in the same conversation, hence my mixing the two. Eoin Colfer doesn’t seem to have written any other big series after Artemis Fowl (which was already quite the accomplishment).

I am getting really tired of constant reviews between Wanikani and Bunpro, so I’m trying to make more time to get back into reading. I am pleasantly surprised that my local library has a few books in Japanese, though they’re mostly beyond my level.
For now, I have two books to try out. The first is one I got for a book club ages ago and never got around to, 10っ分で読めるこわい話. As a kids book, on its surface it should be a very easy read. Short stories, no kanji, spacing between words, and simple grammar. However, as with most children’s media, I find that there are a lot of “easy” words I haven’t learned, perhaps about 10-15%. Still, I think I should be able to get through the book in about a month.
The other book is much more ambitious. 乙女ゲームの破滅フラグしかない悪役令嬢に転生してしまった。It’s a popular light novel, one of the original to set off the villainess reincarnation subgenre. I can struggle through and understand it, but each page takes about 30 minutes… At 300 pages, that’s 150 hours!? Well, hopefully the new vocabulary starts repeating and it gets faster, otherwise I might have to give up on it for now.
I also recently finished a couple of manga: ルックバック was a really good read. There was a lot of visual storytelling meaning pages of no text! The occasional handwritten text was a real struggle, but otherwise a pretty smooth read. It was cool to have an emotional experience in a different language for the first time. 一人ぼっちの○○生活 was a much denser text with a lot of witty jokes. If you’re patient, it’s a cute read. Next was チェンソーマン, pleasantly readable but with some very informal speech I had to learn. Lastly, as an experiment, I tried speed-reading 東京リベンジャーズ without focusing too much on new words. I was able to get the gist of it and surprised myself by finishing the first volume in a day.
I love reading books, especially when I can find them at the library. They must have been requested at one point, but I wonder if anybody else has ever read them.
Yeah, he’s got AF, the sequel series with the twins, and I know at least one random one-novel story that he wrote before all that (which is also quite good, although I can’t remember the name right this second). But AF got pretty popular! Popular enough for that insult of a movie, at least.

Yesterday’s update: I lied!
I got through most of volume 2 of アトリエ before I left work, and then finished it up at home. Given that volume 2 ended off with
one of the knights(?) threatening to erase Coco’s memories after the river turned to sand
I was like “…Okay I cannot just leave off there” and, luckily, had volume 3 sitting right next to me. So I’m a little ways into volume 3, just until I got far enough in to not be ending on a cliffie.
I have returned from Summer Vacation.
Didnt to much studying and as such my reviews are a week out of just doing. Did some minor reading, did some minor listening, did a fair amount of talking so I didnt lose it but these reviews are gonna be rough regardless.
Did buy a book though and read some of it. Similar to the “5 minute stories” series they have I found a series called “54漢字の物語” which should be self explanatory.
Some of the stories are a little difficult since they seem to use idioms or other such to create the story in so few squares. But then on the second page it goes a bit more into detail to explain the story.

The first story I read was about a 3 KILOMETER whale that was found in Tokyo Bay. From the the perspective of a boat? like over the radio.
Then the second side was from the perspective of like a news broadcast? And how it was actually a 3 kilometer Dolphin? But like, the mistake was understandable because its 3 kilometers big. Certainly interesting for sure.
