Book collector rehab (actually reading what you own accountability thread)

I use either my iPad using kindle app, iBooks app, or the Japanese website to read my digital books or I use Calibre on Windows laptop. But I rarely read on a screen if I can help it (I have an eye condition that means I should do less screen time but I use screens for work )

My understanding is it depends on how the manga is uploaded to where you got it from. Some have clickable text meaning you can use the dictionary of your device/ browser/ app if it supports Japanese text but others are just images of the manga page or panels which can make it more difficult to be able to select the text.

I have used a screenshot then selected the text to put into a dictionary or translation app before but that can add additional time and take away from immersive reading.

Awesome haul :sunglasses: puts my recent order to shame

Ohhh that’s such a good haul! I didn’t realize the covers for こゆびと恋々 were so pretty. May need to add it to the to-buy list. . . Also, jealous you got the coloured edition of Magic Tree House. I don’t think those were available back when I bought them. The Japanese illustrations are super cute (and kind of hilarious in some scenes) in that series, much better than the English version in my opinion.

:handshake:

Sorry, I’m solely physical copies

Quite a variety! Are these filling in holes in current collections, or?

And speaking of hauls…payday hit, and I was out and about with a friend to watch the Pandora Hearts musical…so we figured why not make a day of it and go hit bookoff, too?
And possibly a quick swing by our local small bookstore for October’s new releases

A den of criminal activity

Y’all sold me on Dandelion, lol.

However, I was also foiled horribly: after my amazing discovery of some Pumpkin Scissors volumes last time, this time I found…a complete set of Pumpkin Scissors. But I’m not willing to buy duplicates, so alas I’ll have to continue the hunt for the ones I’m missing. (And they didn’t have any individual volumes :sob:)

Anyway, today’s rare/surprising and exciting find was Dengeki Daisy!
…Which I will hopefully not immediately find a set of next time I go shopping, right.

Hope you enjoy it, it’s definitely one I’ll continue with even though it’s not a genre I would have picked up without the series being recommended to me

Another awesome haul you’ve got :sunglasses:

My CD Japan account already has an order sitting waiting to be purchased once payday hits. I’m not even trying to hide it any more

I would say jail, but I also have a confession to make. I may or may not have ordered another small bookshelf, which obviously means I need to fill said bookshelf.

Crimes

There’s an event going on right now where if you buy 薬屋のひとりごと〜猫猫の後宮謎解き手帳〜 you get a cute little 棚差し for your bookshelf. So I ended up stopping by 有隣堂 to grab them. I already have the main manga and first LN already, so have been meaning to pick up this version eventually.

While I was there, I noticed they also had ホタルの嫁入り available with some 特典/特装版 items and ended up grabbing a bunch of those too. I’d already skim read the first few volumes after I saw other people post about it in the thread. I’ll avoid spoilers, but the first few volumes are interesting at least!

Also stopped by Bookoff after and grabbed a few more things because why not lol.

To lighten my sentence, I’ll report that I have been reading a bit more this week. In addition to the 新完全マスター practice every morning, I also read through vol 16 and 17 of ニナ and started vol 18, which I’ll probably finish today.

I also started reading vol.7 of ヤニ吸う, but haven’t had time to get more than a few pages in yet.

Yeah, it’s a mix of continuing series, things I’ve read in English, “I’ve seen the anime” things, and one I’m going in mostly blind.

It’s been a while, but finally finished another book. I read through とっておきドラえもんコロコロテカテカかわいい編. It’s been about two years since I last read Doraemon, and I’m happy to see I know a lot more of the casual speech used in these stories. Despite it being almost entirely hiragana, I found it to be easier to parse words and homophones than the last short story collection I read. The stories gradually got more difficult as I read through, but remained at only a few look ups per episode. The ending commentary, on the other hand, was rough. Much more in line with the light novel I was reading. Luckily, there were only about 12 pages of commentary scattered throughout the book, so it wasn’t too much of a time sink.

I always enjoy seeing what bizarre things happen in Doraemon. It’s often predictable, but there’s the rare shocking development. What do you mean Nobita and Doraemon created a new Adam and Eve, taught them fire, weapons, and technology, and then locked them away from the world, all because Nobita wanted to believe in a conspiracy theory?

Anyway, next I will decide between Spy Family, Demon Slayer, or the kanji usage manga.

I think I need to report here to hold myself accountable. I have accumulated a big stack of Manga when I was still studying more actively, mostly because I just opted for full sets of a series because it´s “more cost-efficient”.
I´m not sure how cost-effective it really is when I have almost 50 unread mangas at home…
I finally have more free time to get back to my studies and started reading again and I also immediatly sinned by ordering 4 more mangas and 2 books.
So now I´m on a complete book buying ban until I haven´t read at least 20 books/mangas of my unread pile
I´m hoping to complete ルリドラゴン before my order with volumes 2 - 5 comes in…

I’ve FINALLY finished よつばと! vol. 6! AND made a start in vol. 7. And then there was actual work to be done at work (unfortunately) so I couldn’t continue :frowning:

But, I also have been crime-free! Unless a puzzle book counts.
…I don’t know if it helps or hurts my case that it’s a puzzle book about murders… (Murdoku, for those wondering).

Y’all, Bookwalker gave me 300 coins to spend by the end of the month. IT’S FREE MONEY!! WHICH MEANS FREE MANGA!!

Here’s hoping and thanks! I’ve got Dandelion on my shortlist for next things to read, so it’s in my bag today with my current Hanako-kun and Atelier volumes.

…That said, I may have spent my free time the past few days futzing with my librarything’s tagging/series lists/other back end catalogue information, rather than reading. Oops.

It’s okay, we all know I’m a permanent inmate. What’s that series on the bottom of your crime-pile? I don’t recognize it, but the spine art looks pretty :eyes:

Gratz! If you’re taking votes, I put mine on Demon Slayer :+1:

Trust me, many of us here are familiar with the temptations of set-purchases. Best of luck with your reading goals! 頑張れ!

Gratz x2! Personally I think I’d let a puzzle book slide, especially compared to your competition for criminal activity.

I’m sensing a crime spree in the making…

As mentioned - no reading update for me, since I got mired up in catalogue tweaking. Still on top of my reviews though, and I have my books with me at work, so I’ll get back around to them! …Eventually.

If I could access my books right now, I would probably be updating mine too. I’m in the process of a reshuffle in my house so everything is currently piled up in front of my book cases meaning I have access to the books in my bag or my textbooks and those don’t count as reading for me
