Book collector rehab (actually reading what you own accountability thread)

I’ve come to realize that I have a thing for white (and also silver) haired anime guys as well!

The price of being a grad student :pensive:

Ive kept almost every book Ive ever had to buy from undergrad that wasnt in the sciences. However that idea of writing quick and easy grammar explanations is good. Currently struggling with trying to explain “defining and non-defining” clauses. “The student who…” or “The movie which…”

Since in Japanese they are pretty much the same sentences its difficult to express the nuance and differences that exist.

Today’s update: ホタルの嫁入り volume one! Didn’t realize it was only partially furigana’d (although honestly I should have expected it, given the premise) and I have once again stuck myself in a keigo-heavy pseudo-historical setting but alas, I am nothing if not predictable in my tastes.

All the kids were out on a performing arts field trip so I didn’t have any classes today and everything I’ve been reading is manga. I think you’ve read a bunch of way harder stuff already tbh!

Yeah I’m the same. If I don’t get my reading in before work starts it usually isn’t happening. Brain is too dead by the end of the day

I think so? The website is still down, so was a pretty major vulnerability I guess.

Ah well, forces me to read my physical books/work through my backlog instead of skim reading random web comics!

Ah, I think we’ve had a bit of this discussion before, but a lot of my reading is during down time at work. I know not everyone’s situation allows for it, but it does give me some downtime I might not otherwise have

I’m not anywhere close to a tech person, but from what I gathered it was/is in fact a pretty major risk. I know I’ve found a few websites still popping maintenance notifications when I try to open them, even today.

So uh… still a nice beanbag chair available for me in jail? Or should I bring my own >_>

Not a very big crime though I think, and it’s for a good reason! I bought two books on sumi-e (and one on japanese calligraphy in general) because I’m going to try making something for my Japanese teacher as a thank-you gift. And I’ve been interested in the art form in general for ages now, so time I learn more about it.

I’ve actually managed to resist the urge to buy more books. I swear the fact that I have no more space in my bookcase has nothing to do with it. Nope, not at all. Nu-uh.

No no, come join me, plenty of room! I’ve been committing crimes pretty much all week so I’ve already got the kettle on and everything.

And man, I wish the concept of “you physically have no room for this” actually did more than slow me down for like 2 seconds when I’m thinking about buying things. (It usually just results in me switching to “ok what do I move around to make room for this,” lol).

No reading yet today, but residual from yesterday: got through about the first half(?) of Dandelion while on the train to meet a friend. Fun so far! Shade is such a brat

Tore through 魔男 volume 10 yesterday! Now I must once again wait :pensive:

10/30 edit (because apparently you can’t post more than 3 times in a row, TIL):

Nothing today, busy with work marking (and giving my kids candy because tomorrow’s Halloween gotdangit). How fares everyone else?

Happy Friday and almost Halloween to those who celebrate!

Was it just be or did this week feel super long? Looking forward to the holiday next week.

Finished the second half of Kamisama Kiss this morning and started the second volume over lunch.

After being the “best behaved person on this thread” I have committed book crimes.
Now that I’m picking 赤髪白雪姫 back up, I realized the only other books I have left is Noragami, a isekai a friend gave me for my birthday, and book 2 of Kagami no Kojo.

All of Inuyasha, FMA, Beelzebub or Tsubasa is 7,200円
but all of 幽☆遊☆白書 is only 2,500円

I think if your reading pile has shrunk down to only two books, crimes are forgiven.

I use it for scanning but like seeing the covers as well in the app on my phone. I tend to only use the web browser on the tablet or laptop though as it’s much easier for adding books that don’t scan or adding additional info

No worries, and yeah, I’ve got volumes 4 & 5 to add to it :joy:

Thanks
Everything Japanese has fallen aside atm but trying to get into a new routine and settle in to having someone else in the house again is causing its own challenges (any change is a big thing for me to adapt to even when it’s change that I like ). I’m hoping to get better at that this month though :crossed_fingers::rofl:

Educational books, nice :sunglasses:
I’ve always been interested in Japanese calligraphy but haven’t the guts to try it since it’s another hobby that will most likely get expensive and then only get used very occasionally for me (I have many hobbies )

:joy: I know that feeling. I’m literally considering getting rid of English books I haven’t read in decades just to make room for more Japanese books

What did you think?

Can’t let that TBR pile get too low, crimes are definitely forgiven :joy:
I wish my TBR was that low
