Bringing AI into Bunpro

Personally, if AI is just used for spaced repetition planning or other purely technical stuff - then that is completely fine. But, I am fully against AI being used for sample sentences, explainations of grammar etc. I think it’s important for language learning that examples and explanations are natural and fully human made. For your ideas like reading practice etc., I think you should just try another websites. Bunpro is nice because it’s simple. Let’s not destroy that.

the algorithms are AI. the term for AI is so vague now and there are so many different types it’s hard to determine whether something is AI or not. people do use AI everyday and it boosts productivity, it’s not an evil spirit going around ruining people’s lives. generative AI is probably the worse one, but I’m pretty sure the AI we’re talking about here is traditional AI that includes algorithms and deep learning, not generative AI.

its like when computers were invented. i wasn’t alive in the 20th century when computers were still emerging, but i can assume it’s like today where many people did not want to be involved with computers. computers did take human computer’s jobs but also made many more jobs and made the whole world more efficient, so why can’t AI do the same?

This doesnt answer my question. How can AI make Bunpro more efficient? Explain to me a literal example of me logging on and needing AI to help learn Japanese, that is more efficient than actually reading Japanese vocabulary and grammar points as currently presented.

Why would AI being part of SOME aspects of our lives mean it needs to be part of EVERY aspect of our lives? Sorry, but Bunpro is good enough already, and it doesn’t need AI, there’s not a single feature here that would benefit from the inclusion. Better algorithms, sure. An LLM, hell no.

ok, but its kinda hard to get more efficient than reading so ill improve something else.

a tab in the cram feature (which most people don’t use) that an algorithm (AI) would look at your learning data and select which vocab and grammar points you have the most trouble with and would construct a study session focusing on your troubled area.
sometime i notice that its hard to understand a grammar point so i ask chatgpt to have a conversation with me and explain it. but thats just how i study. speaking of chatbots, bunpro should have an integrated one in the content or practice section of their navigation bar.
those are just some ideas

yea i guess now not every aspect of our lives need to have ai. i guess it’s too soon for everyone to accept it

Very clearly this thread is discussing the introduction of GenAI / LLMs.

gen ai like the ai slop art? LLMs are actually useful instead of gen ai that makes “art”

LLMs are gen AI. And LLMs would not be useful on this site. Bunpro is amazing because it is human made and not riddled with AI slop generated by an LLM that doesn’t know how to teach languages, because it’s nothing more than a glorified statistical model that makes so many mistakes and doesn’t understand how language works. Tell me one thing on Bunpro you think would actually be improved through the introduction of an LLM.

It’s nostalgic to remember that before 2022 the term machine learning model was used instead of AI

It’s still used but only between devs, and in many cases it’s being defaulted to AI just because it has became the main term now everywhere

the term AI is too vague now and there’s not many sources giving clear definitions

As I use the cram feature pretty often, this already exists I believe

But also like this is basically the function of SRS to begin with as things that are troublesome will naturally fall back into your regular reviews

the point of an LLM is to gather as much information as possible on the given topic and answer as accurately as possible. it would be good on languages because it has a set of rules and can search online for information from native people. LLM is a type of gen AI but most people refer to gen AI as AI that makes media like images, songs, and other stuff idk

you have to say everything is AI now or else how are you going to sell -Product- without actually adding anything new to it

This makes it very clear to me that you’ve never used an LLM to learn languages. Because they really do not know how to teach languages (because they don’t know anything, they just predict tokens based on probabilities).

yea i tried looking for that tab but the cram ui is not that great, i knew it existed so that’s i wrote about it. and yea, the point of the troubled grammar is to review stuff you suck at at that moment instead of waiting for it to appear in the next session where you might forget more about it in that period of time.

they dont know anything is a bit of an exaggeration don’t you think? how do they predict stuff if they analyzed the information on stuff? don’t humans also predict stuff?

I should make a bingo card of all the talking points that have been repeated 2+ times at this point so people can have fun whilst reading this thread. It’s going in circles at this point.
