Bunsgiving 2025

:turkey: It’s that time again… :eyes:

BUNSGIVING IS BACK, BABY!

Whether you celebrate it as Thanksgiving, 勤労感謝の日, or just another day in late November, what better time of the year than now to show someone how much you care by giving them the Gift of Grammar™!

Starting today (25th Nov), through next Wednesday (3rd Dec), all gifted subscriptions are 20% off!

We have packed a lot into this year’s Bunsgiving, so read the full post to find out what has been done!

TL;DR:

  1. New Gifting/Bunsgiving page
  2. Created a Donation Pool where you can donate or request subscription tokens – we match all donations!
  3. Free limited-time-only Bunsgiving cosmetics

:turkey: Bunsgiving? The Gift of Grammar™?

Over the years, we have had users reach out about gifting Bunpro subscriptions to friends and family. We turned this into a dedicated event (Bunsgiving) a few years back.

With how successful Bunsgiving was the last couple of years, and the time it takes each year to process all the gifting, we have decided to make it a dedicated feature.

We have created a new Bunsgiving page, that you can use to buy gift Subscription Tokens and donate to the Donation Pool

:gift: How can I gift a subscription? :gift:

This year it’s very simple. Visit the Gifting page, and click on one of the big nuggets:

Follow the purchase flow, and you will be emailed a unique token that you can send to that special someone.

The codes of purchased/unredeemed tokens can also be viewed in the Available Gift Codes part of your Subscription Settings.

The Bunsgiving sale prices are as follows:

Length Price
1 month $5 → $4
3 months (new) $15 → $12
1 year $50 → $40
Lifetime $150 → $120

:baby: Lifetime Sale :older_woman:

Maybe that special someone in need of a little grammar TLC is you. While the Bunsgiving Sale is active, you can give yourself the Gift of Grammar™️ directly with a discounted lifetime membership ($150 → $120).

See your subscription page for details.

PS. The Bunsgiving Sale on Lifetime memberships is separate from the upcoming annual sale of lifetime memberships ($120) that will begin in late December.

Our Mission

Whether it is how we build the platform, our recent localization efforts, or making learning material freely available (like our recent release of 25 full JLPT practice tests), our mission to make Japanese learning more accessible is a core part of why we do what we do.

However the premium and expanded features that we offer (SRS, progress tracking, cram etc) all require a subscription, and while Bunpro is one of, if not the cheapest paid tool out there, sometimes not everyone has the means to utilize these tools on an ongoing basis.

Behind the Scenes

From time to time, individuals reach out to us about their circumstances or socioeconomic struggles, and we do our best to grant free subscription time where we can.

At the same time we also have generous users who reach out to gift subscription time to be granted to users on an as needed basis.

We decided to formalize and combine these into the Community Pool.

The Pool

We have initially stocked the Community Pool with 1200 months of subscription time!

Any user who is struggling or unable to afford a subscription can apply for a six month subscription from the pool. This will open a custom support ticket. We will look at account activity, forum activity and the information provided to help us make an informed decision about the application.

Donating

Any user who has the means and is feeling generous can also contribute to the pool by donating Tokens.

We will match every donation made, month-for-month.

That means that for every 3 month donated to the pool by the community, a learner in need will be able to receive a 6 month subscription to keep their journey going.

Donations can be made anonymously. There is an activity display showing donations as well as distributions from the pool (distributions are always anonymous).

Note: This is just an example to show what it looks like

The Community Pool is a bit of a social experiment for Bunpro. We couldn’t find many examples to use as inspiration or to know what to expect. We ultimately went with this approach because it allows us to standardize giving subscription time to those in need while amplifying the impact of any user contributions.

:shopping_cart: Free Stuff :shopping:

Last, we have some FREE Bunsgiving-themed items available in the B-Point Shop!

For a limited time only, during the Bunsgiving period (25th Nov – 3rd Dec).
Snag them quick!

As always, we are eternally grateful for the continued support and feedback everyone provides!

You are what we are thankful for this Bunsgiving Season.

With love, The Bunpro Team :bunprogold:

I’d like to suggest Bunniesgiving too, where everyone gets a free bunny or 10 :rabbit:

The way bunpro clearly cares about the community makes me so happy to see! :sparkles:

Thank you for making Japanese learning more accessible to everyone and for making the donation process more streamlined :bowing_man:

Great idea. Love it.
A way to support Bunpro and Japanese learners. (Especially for lifetime sub owners)

Stupid question, but can I also give a lifetime subscription to myself thus canceling my monthly one?

If you go here: https://bunpro.jp/subscribe you can directly upgrade your account from monthly to lifetime.

PS. The Bunsgiving Sale on Lifetime memberships is separate from the upcoming annual sale of lifetime memberships ($120) that will begin in late December.

So I don’t really understand the difference, if I want to switch to lifetime now, in summary, it means, that’s there’s no difference between current sales and December?

Yes, they are the same. We just include that to prevent confusion and so no one panics thinking these couple days are the only sale window.

We love buns puns

Oh, understood. Thanks!

I’ve been waiting for this, lifetime here I come !
From what I understand since I just renewed my monthly I’ll get a partial refund for it ? Or is it lost in the switching process ?

Any remaining time on your current subscription becomes a prorated discount toward the upgrade :+1:

Are we supposed to be able to see the prorated discount before purchasing lifetime? I purchased a year in June so I have around 6 or 7 months worth to prorate and the price is listed as $120 at the point where I would submit payment.

The Bunpro team rocks for doing this! I think it’s already a great value for both time and money when it comes to learning. But a discount and freebies for people in need is over the top awesome!

I am now a happy new lifetime customer!

Mine showed up on the final confirmation page.

The total price is the same, but it looks like:

$20 credit from remaining Bunpro Annual
+
$100 from payment method
‘=’
$120 total
On the final confirmation screen you see something like this as a breakdown.

I hope that makes sense.

:grimacing: Based on what you said I gave it a shot but they charged me the full $120.
Does it maybe have trouble prorating if it’s a yearly subscription?

@Jake any chance I can be refunded for the time that was left on my original year subscription? I had checked my membership page and it said I had until 6/20/26 remaining for yearly sub to renew.

Credit card charged here:

I caught a screenshot of my membership prior to lifetime taking effect:

It is a bit late here JP time, but Jake will get this sorted out first thing in the morning for you I am sure :bowing_man:. Please hold tight for a couple of hours and apologies for the inconvenience!

Thank you. I’ll keep an eye out for a response.

I really adore and admire your approach to Japanese and the way you make it as affordable as possible, especially during such difficult times on so many different levels. From my own experience, I know how calming and reassuring it can be to spend time studying a foreign language - it gives me a moment to breathe and think about the future. It’s all about those little precious moments (except on JLPT test day :japanese_goblin:).

I’m a firm believer in the saying “what goes around, comes around,” and I truly wish all the best for the entire BunPro team. You deserve it!!!
