Cant make progress on reviews

I recently moved to this site, coming from renshuu. I had already finished n5 over there so I rushed through n5 vocab and grammar I recognized. This has resulted in about 500-600 reviews sitting in my vocab reviews. No matter how many I do, it seems Bunpro just adds nearly the same amount back the next day, so I can’t ever get the review down to a reasonable number.

I’ve turned down the SRS frequency to 36 hours just now. Will this help me get the review number down to zero? I’ve been doing 50-150 neary everyday for weeks and am still at about 500 reviews.

You have a few options.

  1. Remove them from your reviews for now. If you believe you have mastered them, set them as mastered, and continue your reviews in renshuu. Reset your settings to default. 36 hours is too long. If you know N5, there is no need to be doing mass reviews, you should start learning new content. This means these cards will not show up for a REALLY long time, so be sure you know the ones you mark as mastered.
  2. If you want to go back through and redo it, remove all of them from your reviews, and do one whole chapter a day. This will be ~150 reviews a day with default settings. Once you get to new content, start doing a regular amount of new points a day, and continue your reviews.

I started BunPro as my first foray into grammar when I was already well into N4. I did a full chapter a day for N5, then took my time starting in N4. There ware a significant amount of reviews each day.

I would reset the deck and add them properly (staggered over time). If you want to continue learning new content, you could always add 5-10 new words a day and then 5-10 from the N5 deck. You could also just set them to mastered if you are absolutely sure you know them.

I can relate to what you did, I did basically the same last year

My advise: do a set amount of reviews every day (personally, I like 50). while doing your reviews, manually adjust every items srs level to what feels right to you. words you know pretty well can go to expert 1 or even 2, words you think you know but want more practice on go to the seasond stages, words you kinda know go into the adept stages. remove words you dont know yet.

when you finally get down your reviews to zero, you can start adding thise removed words back into your queue via the learn button, when you have added the n5 deck there.

i think that process took me around a months. that time was well worth it for me, to adjust to bunpro overall and have somwhat okay spaced out reviews.
