Converting vocabulary review type to "Translate / Grade"

I decided to convert my vocab review type to, Translate / Reveal Grade. I recognize that if you make this change under your profile defaults, the deck settings take priority, per the instruction there, “Note: The settings of individual Decks will take precedence over your Default Review Type set here.”

I’ve applied the update under the defaults with the “update all” button, and then went to each Bunpro vocab deck N5->N1 and did the same. However, I still some reviews follow the old “fill-in” review type.

A couple of things. That is a ghost. I wouldn’t expect it, but I guess it’s possible that some pending reviews aren’t converted? Also, I only see one とっくに if I search vocab and if I go to that specific item, it shows the correct review type, so it seems to have been updated but the review wasn’t?

Also of note, I tried the defaults update via ios app last night and got two different toasts, one saying success and one saying failure. So today, I tried the update via web and it got success.

Am I missing something? Is this working as intended?

As a separate matter, if I’m understanding correctly, it seems like it would be tough to make such a change if you had pulled in random vocab from different places? You would have to go hunt for such instances and adjust the deck?

Thanks.

Here’s another I found FWIW. This time, I have a review screenshot:

But you can see here:

The type on the card is set as translate / reveal & grade.

This system is all a bit rough/confusing, so some info on them:

Ghosts only exist for sentences, so you cannot convert Ghost Reviews to the Manual Input / Translate style.

Actually doing the global “Default Grammar/Vocab Review Type” change and clicking Update All from the Review Settings page will change all Reviews, regardless of Deck Settings.
The Deck Setting overwrite only takes place when you create new Reviews when learning them.

Hope that clears some things up?
For now, as options, you can either:

  • Wait for the sentence Ghosts to be slain (takes less than a week if you get them correct on the first go)
  • Destroy all Vocab Ghosts
  • Reduce the SRS Strictness and/or SRS Interval Vocab through the Review Settings page to see Vocab items more frequently

Sounds good. Working through the ghosts solution is fine with me. Thanks for the update.
