Couple questions about self-study sentences

Hey, apologies if these questions have already popped-up before but I did try looking through the forum a bit.

I currently use Bunpro vocab to add words I don’t recognise when reading any kind of text. And I’ve come accross a couple points that don’t feature example sentence such as 志望動機 regularly used in Japanese resumes. In that case you are only shown the kanji for reveal & grade, which is fine but I thought I might as well try to add some self-study sentences.

I looked up an example sentence for it and tried to add them as self-study but I’ve encountered a few problems.

  • As I understand, self-study sentences are considered different from grammar or vocab reviews and even different from the vocab point you type them in? And each one has its own SRS level, I don’t know if you can group them so if you progress with one, you progress with the rest?
  • It defaults to type-in review type and I am unsure if I can change it? I’d prefer reveal & grade for vocab because I am specifically learning to read the kanji.
  • It tells me I can type the answer in kanji when I create the self-study sentence by putting it between brackets. Though when I review it (fill-in type): typing it in kanji through an IME keyboard or in hiragana, It says it’s incorrect.

I’d be grateful if anyone could help as I like having the vocab I’m learning in a sentence for SRS.

I think this has been asked before, but currently self-study sentences are just cloze questions.

I’m trying to use Bunpro for vocab in a similar way to you, there’s a lot of words with example sentences, but only appear as flashcards which is a shame. Would love to see any vocab with example sentences be provided as reading questions.

Thanks for the clarification, I did see a Bunpro staff mention on one of the topics about self-study sentences that they wanted to improve that system, I wonder if they plan to allow integrating them as regular example sentences for vocab.
