Discrepancies between Bunpro & WaniKani

Hello everyone,

Does anyone else struggle with the inconsistency between Bunpro & WaniKani in terms of what constitutes a correct answer?

A concrete example is 石ころ. WaniKani not only accepts, but teaches it as “Small Stone”. But this does not constitute a correct answer in Bunpro. If it was only the odd word here and there I wouldn’t have a problem, but I never make it through a review pile in Bunpro without failing on multiple disagreements between the two sites.

It’s gotten to the point where I am seriously considering killing my integration to WaniKani inside of Bunpro, but I honestly think that is such a shame for a feature that is otherwise a huge convenience.

Hi there! I am sorry to hear about the inconvenience that you are experiencing. Unfortunately, we are not able to account for all words that other applications may use, but cover the standard dictionary meanings for all words. However, we do often add alternative meanings as possible answers when we receive reports about them from users. If you would like us to add an alternative, please feel free to send through a feedback report at any time.

Alternatively, you are also able to create your own synonyms which will also be accepted in reviews. You can do this at any time through the ‘Add Synonyms’ button on any vocab item’s main page. Hope this helps!

The integration is valuable! I’d keep using it.

Another (worse) solution that Asher didn’t already mention. If you’re particularly sick of seeing a minimally supported word on Bunpro, you can always mark it as mastered. If you feel you aren’t benefiting. Then it won’t show up anymore! And you can continue with the more cleanly integrated words.

Thanks! Didn’t know about the custom synonyms feature, I’ll check that out and most likely it will alleviate the issues I have.

You are most welcome! Hope that you continue to find vocab useful!

Personally I don’t bother adding custom synonyms in either app. If the answer I give is a very close synonym, then I just force it to be accepted. That’s the nice thing about using a 3rd party mobile app for WK, I can undo/accept at my own discretion.
