I received a notice today that started a sentence with 止むを得ず
From context, it seems to have a similar meaning to 申し訳ございませんが
Are there any Bunpro grammar points that explain this phrase or parts of it?

I see that it’s a rare form of the adverb やむえず, meaning “unavoidably”, which is in the Bunpro dictionary
Erm, I think the correct Kanji is 止むを得ず. If so, this is exactly the やむを得ない、やむを得ず、。。。It is usually not written in 止むを得ず, but it’s the same.
This phrase does not have the same meaning as 申し訳ございませんが (I’m sorry but …), it has the meaning of “something has to be done” or “have to do something” or “unavoidably”.
“熱が出たので止むを得ず早退した” = I had a fever so I have to go home (from work) early
