Extra Study for Godan?

I’ve spent some time studying Japanese and while I largely can remember how godan verbs are conjugated, sometimes I can’t remember how a ~ぬ verb works, or I mix up る godan with ichidan, or some other issue related to godan verbs. I have a chart that I made to resolve conjugation questions, but I really can’t rely on it all the time if I want to actually know this stuff. I find I need more specific reinforcement study for this, than Bunpro occasionally throwing some of the rarer verbs my way or not telling me if this verb is ichidan or godan and then leaving me to wonder why exactly my answer was incorrect (was it the verb, was it the grammar point, etc).

So what could I or someone else looking to improve specifically their godan verb understanding do?

There’s a phone app (for iOS and Android) called Japanese Conjugation City that does tests where you have to conjugate verbs or adjectives from one form to another. It’s very configurable, you can choose the conjugations used for the questions and for the answers, the jlpt level, and for verbs it’s possible to enable or disable godan and ichidan verbs separately.

If you also use WaniKani, this is what I used to cram those rules into my head early on and eventually they just stick and you never have to study them again!

Though, I do still stumble if I ever have to conjugate a tricky verb for the first time in the middle of a conversation :joy:

This is what I used when I first started, I don’t think I ever even learned initially what a godan verb even was lmao. Helps to visualize how verbs are split up and you’ll be able to quickly do it in your head after going through it all.

Not home atm but when I do ill post a conjugation link to help test what you learn from the above link. Hopefully it serves you well! Verbs are the one thing I need to learn visually, and this did the trick for me and others that I’ve linked it to in the past on bunpro.
