Maybe it’s in how the questions are presented, because I’ll get some of them wrong at first as well. Well, the vocab not the grammar. I’m further than this app has shown me on grammar.
Usually, I can’t remember the spelling of the newer vocab. But, after giving it a few tries, I’ll check my notes. While I know here it’s technically “cheating” I generally get it right the 2nd or 3rd review.
So, I think it is in the difficulty of the fill in the blank for me as the first exercise. If it were multiple choice for a round or two and then fill in the blank, I’d get it, as that’s how I’ve been functioning with Reword. (You have three options to pick for the quizzed word–MC, typing, regular flashcard.)
I’ve only tried Bunpro for the past couple of days. And I think I’ll get a lot out of it, but I can’t solely rely on this app. I also use a grammar book, which after 80 days is starting to make sense. I also use a couple of SRS apps and a fun app. I will use all tools at my disposal and practice how I want. I’m fairly pleased with my progress although there are probably more efficient ways, but I know I wouldn’t be having as much fun. Just like I know I won’t have fun giving up learning the Kanji, but I do something similar there as well. Recognition, Decomposition, Meaning, Form, Vocab expansion + Pronunciation. I definitely skip all the readings, but pick up one or two in the Recognition and Meaning phases by osmosis. I focus more on the readings with the last step. Although, this isn’t a true linear path, but they’re definitely different stages I’ve identified.
And for me, if I’m having fun with it, I keep learning at a pace I’m comfortable with. I’m starting to break into reading short sentences/passages, and then I’ll add in more writing of my own sentences.
