Ghost Review Setting between minimal and full

Hi,

I’ve been thinking about how an intermediate ghost setting would be useful for some time now.

When I first started using Bunpro, I didn’t need ghost reviews since the natural srs interview was so short that I’d just learn the grammar point through regular practice. The minimal ghost review setting was ideal since they would activate for specific sentences I was struggling with but not grammar points I was struggling with.

It’s been a few months since I finished N3/N2 cards now though, so all of my cards are between seasoned and expert. Now, having ghost reviews fully enabled is helpful, since when I forget a card the intervals are long so having the ghost intervals helps with practicing grammar points I’ve forgotten.

All that is to say that it would be cool to have a setting for ghost reviews where cards that were srs level 0-6 would use the minimal setting and cards that are SRS 7+ would be full ghost level, mimicking the way I used the settings myself. It would be nice to have that setting for when I start studying N1 cards in the future.

Lots of users seem to be suggesting this! :face_with_monocle:
Pretty good idea

It sounds to me like a misdirected fix to a SRS problem: if I’m correct, when a grammar point is failed it goes down only one level while in Anki-style SRSes it goes down to beginner 1. It might be better to add an option to have this behavior or a button to reset SRS level after answering a card.

To a certain extent it is that, but at the same time I’ve always thought that resetting all the way to level 1 on a missed card is a bit extreme, and that’s even moreso the case with grammar over vocab flash cards.

I don’t think that my memory for a card after getting it wrong once after getting it right 6 times is equivalent to my memory of the card when I first learn it, and so while I do need to review the card again, I don’t have to go through the whole process again. (I’m assuming that’s the rationality behind why the SRS here is the way it is.)

Also, I know this is more a personal failure, but if cards reset all the way to level 1 on failure, I’d be way more likely to cheat myself and say I knew something that I didn’t fully just because it’s discouraging to have to review it all again.

With all that being said, that’s actually why I like the ghost review feature. It feels like an abbreviated way to get the reset to level 1 and do the SRS from the beginning, while also preserving the general SRS because you don’t actually need to go through the whole process again.

Oh and also, I believe there already is an option in the cards to reset their SRS level back to 1.
