Duplicate of Difference between nominalizers こと and の
For the curious, the second video in the linked post actually uses a similar example sentence and の is the more natural particle.

I’m always a little uncertain about whether I should use こと or の when performing basic nominalization. Take the following sentence:
日本語で喋るのは難しいでしょう
My mind wants to always use の to nominalize 喋る
But I always can’t help but wonder if こと is actually what’s correct, if it always feels clunky to me.
日本語で喋る事は難しいでしょう
Same goes for other -ing words you want to make the topic of sentences
Any guidelines/rules that other are aware of?
