Hide unlearned tenses

Just wondering if there was a way from stopping sentences from appearing in reviews with tenses i havent covered yet, for example I want to practice ii - good but I don’t want to practice negative past tense sentences yet, eg “was not good” as these are blocking my progress through reviews

If you follow the Bunpro order for grammar then it should always be the case that only grammar that has previously been taught will be used in example sentences. Currently, the only exception to this is the grammar point for 良い. We are aware of this and are currently deliberating internally about what might be best to do in regards to this specific grammar point. There should be no other exceptions and if there are then please feel free to report them and we will try and fix them as soon as possible!

Also, welcome to the forums!

Past, negative, past negative, and Te form appear so often that it’s worth committing to memory early on. I would write them down somewhere and just stare it down until it’s memorized. They follow similar patterns so commiting them to memory isn’t too terrible.

In what way are these blocking your process? You are being tested on the grammar as it’s taught on the grammar point page. Since various tenses are taught alongside いい, you should already know all the tenses. Aside from that, throughout the course of language learning, you will come across words and grammar usages you don’t know. It’s inevitable and it’s good for you! It only gets harder so getting used to not 100% understanding the meaning/nuance is a good skill to develop now.

I just want to jump back in and mention that OP’s comment is a fair one. We currently teach 良い and its basic conjugations (specifically because it is an exception) before we actually teach い-adjectives and a little way before we teach anything about い-adjective conjugation. I can see how this would be confusing.

Of course, it is also fair to say that these are common patterns so it doesn’t hurt to get some exposure right away and I agree with the sentiment there as well.

Hey, so its blocking me, well slowing me down at least as I keep getting it wrong and it just keeps coming back around again, I’m working through Genki book using that deck and grammar and this isn’t taught yet, so every time it comes up in a review I have no clue as I haven’t learned anything about this yet, just the standard word for good, ii. Thanks!

Ah, you studying through genki was missed context. You could always add いい through the vocabulary deck instead (on Bunpro) and leave it out as a grammar point until you learn the conjugations.

There are only 2 tenses that are directly used in conjugation, (maybe three if you count the て form)
Just learn them first lol, they are pretty straight forward.
