Hourly review or Daily review?

I recently started using Bunpro and i saw the option to do either daily or hourly reviews.
Currently im on a 2 months vacation with a lot of free time enough to connect to bunpro hourly.
So i been wondering if i should rather do the hourly reviews or daily ones?
Thanks in advance.

Maybe I misunderstood your question, but I think you’re looking at the total number of reviews you have currently scheduled. The hourly chart represents how many new reviews will appear every hour (assuming you don’t do any new questions or lessons) and the daily number represents the sum of those over 24 hours.

You can do the reviews any time you want to.

I suggest daily reviews, as those won’t effect the less than 24 hour time frame beginner items.

This way you can see how many reviews you have in the morning, for planning your day. Your beginner items will drop into your review queue whenever they are due, though. Which makes sense.

I’ve done both. I prefer daily, personally. It’s easier to have everything queued up at the start of the day.

I’d also say daily reviews are better. There’s no real advantage of hourly reviews. If you get too many, you can still split them to several batches by yourself, but you have more flexibility about when to do them and it doesn’t really matter if you do them a few hours later than they’re “meant” to be done. I prefer to do them all in one batch in the morning and then focus on other activities like consuming content in Japanese without bothering about checking Bunpro anymore.

The only real difference between daily and hourly is the theoretical maximum efficiency for your brain to memorize what you are learning.

Science has proven, down to the hour (if not smaller intervals), the best amount of time between reviews to maximize learning. And Bunpro, among other learning tools, use the average time for the average person as the default to schedule out the hourly times.

So for maximum effect, it is better to do reviews as they pop up.

HOWEVER!!!
Life does not work on maximums. And we need to live our lives outside of perfect circumstances. The loss in efficiency between hourly and daily is not huge. If anything would be considered the most important, it would be consistency.

As such, you should study in the same manner as you would, when you are not on vacation. Learning a language is a years long process. (This is a marathon and not a sprint.) As such, setting up proper habits and methods is more important (especially at the start) than short term boosts in progress.

Although, if you have your habits in place and want to sprinkle in extra work and gain a temp boost in progression, then go for it. Much like dessert. Eat your meal proper before you indulge.
