So, still loving Bunpro. About a month in now. Doing well on vocab, only problem is that I’m absolutely sucking at my grammar reviews haha… all the conjugation rules and what’s the polite form and what’s not is confusing me big time. So, do y’all know any way I could make it a little easier on myself? A way to review or anything would help tremendously. Thank y’all so much
It always helps me to write every grammar point out into a notebook and create 3 or so example sentences with the grammar. Sometimes I write one of Bunpro’s examples and change it slightly or I write my own original sentence.
Keep doing Bunpro and you’ll get better over time
Writing your own sentences definitely helps. It also helps to listen and make sure you actually register the meaning when you hear it. In general, if you’re struggling, you’re likely trying to add too many too fast. Don’t add more reviews until you understand your current set because they really do build on each other!
It gets tougher at N4 and N3. So pay extra attention during that stage. Review extra if you have to. Read all prompts entirely. Reread the rules for the grammar point if you forget.
Writing exercises like they have in textbooks would help tremendously. If you ever learned a language in school, you already know what I’m talking about. You learn a few grammar points each chapter and you get a bunch of exercises to use the grammar points until they are stuck. If you don’t own a textbook, a lot of online libraries do have some, I’ve seen the genki ones a lot in there.
I’ve found that Bunpro is great at breaking grammar concepts down into smaller digestible lessons but sometimes that doesn’t help build the overall picture especially when you’re first starting out. I’d recommend supplementing Bunpro lessons with other resources like Youtube (there’s loads of free jp grammar content out there!) that explain the points you’re struggling with more holistically.
Having that extra angle often helps piece things together imo good luck!
I definitely agree with lisaef. Everybody has different learning styles and preferences, so it could be that Bunpro’s type of lessons aren’t a great match for your style. If you find that the material doesn’t quite stick, looking up video lessons about the same subject could very well be a great help.
Me too.
