How do you _Actually_ remember the vocab/grammar?

Use it or lose it.

For me, a lot of it is repetition and repeat exposure. But I’m also reinforcing it by making sure bunpro isn’t my only exposure to the material. I’m pairing this with wanikani, anki, and at least 20 minutes of daily active immersion. More if possible. Bunpro is definitely the worst for me out of all the SRS resources I use. wanikani sticks very quickly for me. anki ebbs and flows. I tend to sit around 80% for most of my review sessions on bunpro though. This program asks a lot out of you. For vocab, it expects you to be familiar with a number of different ways a single word can be used. It expects you to familiarize yourself with the sample sentences. And for grammar, shit is rough. I’m not nearly as organized as most people in this thread, I’ve mostly been pressing through it via repetition and the redundancy that my other methods of learning provide.

if u get 50% wrong i don’t think one should add any new items until it improves. cuz das very bad accuracy and shows u barely know the current content ur studying.

What’s the problem with ghosts ?
You see words you struggle with way more that way, isn’t it?
Though the few words I struggle with don’t even go high enough to hit the ghost region lol (looking at これから それから and それでは)

I agree. I suppose learning styles differ greatly from person to person, but for me ghosts are indeed a great help. In fact, recently, I’ve been getting even more use out of ghosts than before. I’ve discovered that manually creating multiple ghosts for an item that’s not sticking for me really helps. Simply getting a whole lot of bone-dry repetition in works wonders.

My issue with Ghosts is:

  1. They take time. Ghosts can force you to repeat an item 4+ times for a single item wrong, even if you only needed to repeat it 1 time.
  2. It sits outside of the SRS algorithm. Whether I get a Ghost card correct or not it doesn’t reflect on where my progress is in the SRS. It just spends time outside of it.

A good SRS algorithm should make it so that a card you get wrong is shown to you again quickly. Bunpro has a very basic SRS algorithm (and shows a variation of cards for one item) so Ghosts can be a bandaid fix for that.

No other app I’ve used has a system like Ghosts. It’s not wrong or harmful, but I think it’s slow and frustrating. It’s also easy to have Ghosts pile up and get out of control.

I see!
Thank you for the explanation.

I just try to get the general meaning of the grammar point or word, then I let immersion do the rest of the heavy lifting for me. I watch Japanese content until I encounter the new grammar point or word I’ve studied on Bunpro.
