ほしくなった how is it formed?

最近、子犬がほしくなった。
Recently, I have started wanting a puppy.

Can someone explain the way hoshikunatta is formed?

ほしい(want/wish for/etc) + なる(become/get/etc) .
ほしい becomes ほしく(adverbial form) and then なる(the verb) is added. ほしくなる
After that なる becomes the past form, ending as なった。
ほしくなった

BE CAREFUL
There is also ほしくなった, the past negative of ほしい
