How to make piled up reviews bearable

I used to be aggressively adding words and reviewing my deck in preparation for JLPT but now that I’ve done the test, I want to slow down. The problem is that my piled up review is still a lot (as you can see in the picture). I’ve been managing it by turning on vacation mode whenever I felt that I’m done for the day then turning it off tomorrow when I’m ready.

Is there any other way to lessen the addition of new review? I’ve seen the SRS interval setting and set it to “Longer” but this is still the amount I have to deal. Should I just nuke the progress for my N3 deck and start from beginning? Although I’m not sure it’s possible to do that

Any suggestion/help is appreciated

It’s possible to reset the decks! That being said, your reviews seem like a very average/manageable amount. If you just work through them without adding anything new for a couple weeks they will decrease for a while.

If you end up wanting to reset: settings → reset → reset vocab (select N3)

I was in a similar situation after taking N2 and what I would do is create a new deck with words still in the Beginner stage, remove them from my reviews, and then add them gradually later and in the meanwhile focus on the Adept/Seasoned/Expert ones first. Of course it’s also better to not add too much new vocab in the following weeks.

Also, if some words in the Beginner/Adept stage seem too easy for you it’s ok to put them to the next level manually so you won’t see them as often.

I hope this helps!

Your review amounts don’t seem too bad. However, the easiest way to lower your review count while still following the whole spirit of a SRS is to just lower the amount of new cards you’re taking to 0 for a time. Once you get to a review threshold you like, start taking new cards again, but take a lower amount than you were previously taking before.

The idea is to figure out the most amount of new cards you can take per day that will give you a tolerable amount of reviews.

@lunchbox1 @Katharsis @alexisduprey Thank you! I’ll just nuke the deck since I was taking the test back in July and I don’t mind starting all over again to reinforce the memory

Ah so it’s hidden that way, somehow I never notice the reset menu
