How to transition from Anki to Bunpro vocab decks?

I just checked a variety of vulgar terms and I can confirm they’re not censored on PC, just on iPhone. However, I somehow had in mind they were censored on PC, too, at some point.

Censoring them on the iPhone is probably related to App Store policies though

Indeed looks like there was an issue with the styling on web.
Will fix this now so that the NSFW settings work properly.

Thanks for bringing this up!

PS. Because JMDict gives us limited info/is innacurate about a words true NSFW status, we basically just have to be very strict and blur out anything that could possible be NSFW.
This unfortunately includes harmless colloquialisms and slang.
Basically some very very NSFW words are marked with the “colloquial” tag but not the “vulgar” tag.
Very annoying.

I’m in a similar smaller boat. I suggested they add a feature for us to be able to bulk select/checkbox the words and mark our desired skill level.

In anki, by default when you get a card wrong, you start over from zero.
Instead, I start over in bunpro.
So I turned off new cards in anki.
in bunpro I set to 3 new grammar a day.
When I get a word wrong in Anki I add to bunpro reviews, and pass it in anki (ask again in 1.4 years)
after a month, I have 20 reviews a day in anki instead of 200.
and then, 1.4 years later, I’m no longer paying for bunpro, I can go back to 100 reviews a day by grading properly.

When we release the Decks overhaul, this will definitely be an option!
Should only a be a few more months away :crossed_fingers:

Just to jump on the placement test idea, I feel like the sheer amount of grammar on bunpro is definitely hard to sort through, even as a test maker, so maybe one of those types of tests which changes the next question based on incorrect and correct answers so that it’s not too long for the test taker. Like if you get 3 questions right in a row, the test algorithm knows to give you a harder set of questions next to assess. Of course, there’s many other logistical problems with a placement test as well…

If/when Bunpro adds an FSRS scheduler for vocab, that should help to streamline the migration. Instead of creating a whole UI to guess/select review levels, the scheduler can just import review history from anki and end up with similar dates for next reviews.

Could you share what the decks overhaul is? The completion of A1-A20? It could be useful for planning studies.

It’s a UI overhaul for the Deck pages.
It’s going to add multi-item selection + progress setting.

The completion of A1-A20?

This is coming anyway, and sentences are being written as we speak!

Love to hear it. If I do 10 words a day… And there’s 20 decks with 1,000 words each… That’s 6 years.

Maybe I’ll be 上手 at the end of it.
