I thought this grammar point was for giving advice. I get the meaning in English, but if the Japanese nuance is a recommendation than I don’t understand why you’d use this grammar point.

You’re right that on the little summary on BunPro, it only mentions giving advice, but ～ほうがいい literally means “～would be good” so this sentence is fine.
