Is it me or has Bunpro become really slow lately?

The site used to be very quick but more recently, it’s been having connection errors and the home page sometimes fails to load at all. On other occasions it takes minutes for it to load. What’s going on here?

Is it maybe related to the recent PHP security issues ? Some of my usual websites are currently down because of it

Did we have any news from Admin about the security of the website? The slowness get’s me worried, is the data being sent off to some middle man place, before it gets to Bunpro’s servers?

Buyee went down for several days, missed out on some rare merchandise. Had various other emails come through saying my data got leaked from other sites.

Hello! I understand your concern.

We’ve had a usage spike maybe 30 minutes ago, but it has subsided.
We had one last week too.

My only guess is that we could be getting scraped by bots.

We don’t use PHP, and your requests are only ever sent between your device and our services.
We’re in the middle of switching from Google Analytics to our own in-house analytics tool.

30 minutes ago? That’s probably my fault for trying to get the right answers, especailly if just trying over and over to get a least one of the hiragana, katakana correct so I can see the solution. That will more or less look like bots. Eventually doing that enough times gets the ‘connection error’ message. Feel very guilty having read that, I’ll go slower from now on and use the ‘reveal answer’ button. More or less does the same thing. :pensive:

It definitely won’t be one person! Let alone one person using the site/app as intended.
Spam your answers to your hearts content!

I’ll need to investigate a bit more to figure out what happened

I feel like the slowness has been going on for a couple of weeks now. It specifically plays up when loading the dashboard or the results page. The page itself shows up within a second, but loading the content (the stats on the dashboard or the results on the results page) takes about 5~7 seconds. It doesn’t always happen, but it happens quite often.

It doesn’t bother me much, except for one thing: the magnifying glass icon in the top bar of the dashboard doesn’t appear until the dashboard has completely retrieved all info, meaning if I open Bunpro to look up a word, I have to wait 5~7 seconds before I can use the search function. While the search function feels like it shouldn’t require all my data. (I do understand the search function wants to display your SRS level on the items in the search results, but that specifically is something it could retrieve in the background while already allowing me to use the search function, right?)

@BreadmanNin here is is it here explained in detail. Could be some kind of interference from Google Analytics if this is what is currenty being used.

@Sean Glad it’s not likely to be me!

I’ve been noticing a lot of slowness/connectivity issues after finishing reviews on both desktop and the iPhone app as well.

I’m no computer whiz, so I won’t pretend like I have any idea what’s causing it, but it seems like it’s not an isolated incident.

I’ve been having those exact problems, but I figured it was just my computer showing its age lmao

It is not just bunpro. A lot of web services have huge spikes and latency added in the last couple of months. You can blame DDos and bots scraping the web and don´t forget the cyberattacks and datacenter outages from all the wars. Look at this latency chart pinging google.de:
