Is the "Troubled Grammar" list useless?

I always wondered what the “Troubled Grammar” list in my stats page is. I learned 712 items so far (finishing N2 next week, yay) and the list contains 269 items. That’s 38% of all my learned items.

If all these were still troubled grammar, I would drown in reviews while I usually have around 30-60 per day. Some of the items in the list also already have an expert rank. Do they really belong into a troubled grammar list?

I read a few older postings about that and it seems that an item is put into the list if I get it wrong for a certain amount of times. But it is never ever removed again from the list.

Wouldn’t it be better to remove items from the list as soon as they reach seasoned status for instance?

At the moment it seems to be pretty much useless for me. It makes no sense to go through 269 items to find items I should work on while a lot of them already have seasoned or even expert status.
I used the list in the first few months while being in N5/N4 and it was useful but now it became pointless because it is far to big and contains a lot of items that I know very well now.

In my experience, items do get removed from the Troubled Grammar list, but I have no clue as to what criteria is used.

I think you don’t notice it because you are adding items faster than they are removed. I learned 414 items to mid N3 in my first 5 months on Bunpro, then I stopped adding items in the default JLPT sequence, about 7-8 weeks ago. My Trouble Grammar list decreased in size since then.

To prove I was not imagining it, I took the first screenshot yesterday. It had 42 items which is 10% of the total. Today, my list has 41 items. The 7th item in yesterday’s list got removed: にもとづいて

My troubled grammar list has nothing in at all (I have like 800 learned items) so I thought this thread would be about the fact that it seemingly does nothing. I’d like to know what actually triggers something as troubled grammar or whether I am experiencing a bug…

I forgot troubled grammar even existed! From my experience yes it is useless. Especially since you don’t get to decide what troubled grammar should be.
But really it isn’t a big deal to me since the ghosts concept is what I would want troubled grammar to be anyhow.

Maybe it’s just there because they thought it would look nice?

I didn’t even know trouble grammar existed until this thread. Just checked mine and I have one item in it, for something I know I got wrong recently. (I’ve learnt 427 grammar points, for reference).

I’m also very curious to know how Troubled Grammar is supposed to work.

I just did my reviews for the day, and my list now has 37 items, 4 less than before the review, so I’m sure that the Trouble Grammar list is active, with items getting added and removed regularly.
