Is there a way to review words without example sentences the same way as others? (show english -> produce Japanese)

I am currently avoiding to add words that don’t have example sentences to my SRS queue because it flips the review flow and I would like to remain on active recall rather than just recognition. Meaning, I want to see the English and recall (and write down) the Japanese term. Just the same as with the terms that do have example sentences (where it works flawlessly), but without the example sentence.

Can this somehow be configured?

Good question!
Currently not possible, but we have discussed adding it in the future.

We have so many different ways of studying a Vocab, makes sense to also have EN → JA as an option

thank you for the reply

if as a workaround, I create an empty self-study sentence with just the word, will it lead to the same outcome, or will it somehow behave differently in other aspects?

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I just wanted to say I’d also be very interested in this feature. Especially since bunpro already has a large integrated dictionary, and complements really well in other areas with WK which is based around recognition instead of recall, I think this would be a great fit.
