Simple really, can anyone recommend a book on Japanese onomatopoeia? Ideally resonably simple or with pictues to help understanding.

it’s an older book, but you can probably find a cheap used copy of An Illustrated Dictionary of Japanese Onomatopoeic Expressions, written by Taro Gomi, the famous author of Everyone Poops.

I second this one! I own this book. It’s a lot of fun. As mentioned, it’s simple and has pictures. It has example sentences too.
