Japanese Youtuber Reccomendations

if you’re interested in art/illustration and the processes behind making an artwork, Naoki Saito ^_^ his videos come with english captions in case you’d need/want them and i find his speech very comfortable to listen to, though of course he uses a lot of technical and artsy terms lol. my personal fave videos of his are the 気まぐれ添削 ones

if you like comedy skits and informative videos on japanese society then Sora The Troll is like a 2 for 1 deal, i’ve been a fan of his for years ^_^ granted his videos are aimed toward an english-speaking audience and all have english subtitles baked into them but i find them to be great for listening immersion regardless, i’ve definitely learned a few words and phrases from him (namely きも meaning “cringe”) lol

I am watching a lot this duo, they use casual conversation/real talk about a lot of topics and make jokes about anything
They are very nice to follow in my opinion!

hi guys! I’m big on immersion, both active and passive so I am subbed to quite a lot. nice to see there’s a thread going for recommendations. I’ll drop by here and again to add on more.

~

Anime: I’m sure Oishinbo needs no introduction, but if it does, it’s a very long-running manga about a food journalist always seeking more food for his newspaper. the episodes are all here and it’s just the perfect amount of goofy and nostalgic anime style.

Travel: here’s an amazing channel I just found today actually. stunning views of Japan, onsens and nature, etc. very relaxing. all subtitled as well. they also have a hiking channel linked!

Gaming: this is a great one especially because I love the main guy’s voice lol and they post a lot of longplays (think: ghost of yotei) which are my preference. it’s nice to see games you played in english played in japanese since you’re already familiar with it.

More gaming: these guys are a crew and play a lot of co-op games like apex, overwatch, rust etc. very good for learning slang terms and Japanese call-outs in video games.

ok that’s it for now! :blue_heart: looking forward to checking out everyone’s recs too!

(I also reccomend becoming a member on this site, it is really nice in my opinion and there is content all the way from complete beginner to advanced levels and a complete guide. however the hours needed to “level up” to more difficult videos should be way higher i would say double the hours needed to level up.

  • Complete Beginner ⇒ Most users are able to level up after 50-75 input hours x2
  • Beginner ⇒ Most users are able to level up after 150-250 total input hours x2 (including the time spent watching Complete Beginner videos).
  • Intermediate ⇒ Most users should be able to level up after 600-750 total input hours x2 (including time from earlier levels).

I belive this is way more accurate since i myself have around 1000 hours of input and have yet to level up to advance level videos.

All are different levels of difficulty since i do not know your “current level”

Is also a really nice podcast in my opinion!

Maybe you were just looking for videos, however leaving this here for anyone to see if they are looking for a podcast.
